Los Alamos National Laboratory User Outreach Coordinator for the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies / (Technical Project Manager 1) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT) in the Materials Physics and Applications Division (MPA-CINT) at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is seekingoutstanding candidatesfor theposition of User Outreach Coordinator. The UserOutreach Coordinatorwillreport to the MPA–CINT group leader and CINT Co-director, working closely with the CINT director and co-director at both the CINT–Core (Sandia National Lab (SNL)) and –Gateway (LANL) facilities.The selected candidate will act as an interface between CINT and its users, and interact extensively with the other Office of Science Nanoscale Science Research Centers (NSRCs). This position involves continualdevelopment and implementation of new outreach strategies for growing CINT's user community. Duties also include playing an instrumental role in organizing the CINT annual User meeting and Triennial program reviews.

The Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies is a national user facility funded by the DOE Office of Science to provide research capabilities in nanoscience to a worldwide community of users. The MPA-CINT group stewards the CINT Gateway facility at LANL, which together with the Core facility at Sandia National Laboratory form the entire CINT user facility. Scientific thrustsinCINT include: Nanophotonicsand OpticalNanomaterials; Quantum Materials Systems; Soft, Biological and Composite Nanomaterials; andIn-Situ Characterization and Nanomechanics. Job Duties:

  • Create and manage highlights and monthly reporting to our sponsor at the DOE Office of Science.

  • Analyzing publication metrics and national award outcomes to strategically target potential CINT users.

  • Oversee content for the CINT website and social media.

  • Promote CINT and the NSRCs at national meeting exhibitions; may include co-organizing sessions, procuring sponsorship, creating conference programs and signage, and budget management.

  • Design/create promotional material for the CINT user program; collaborate with graphic designers and other resources at LANL.

  • Build and nurture a strategic partnership between the two host laboratory partners (LANL and SNL).

  • Assist compiling the triennial review document, including writing content for relevant sections and copy/editing, as well as planning and logistics for the onsite review event, presenting the communications and outreach strategy, and contributing to 30-day and 90-day responses.

  • Take initiative to support CINT’s mission and communicate our success wherever and whenever needed.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills both verbal and written.

  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel: scientists, administrative staff, management.

  • The ability to communicate scientific capabilities and opportunities to prospective users.

  • The ability to communicate scientific achievements to program sponsors and the general scientific community.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage several projects concurrently.

  • Demonstrated experience of writing and editing in a variety of media such as reports, posters, flyers, websites and social media.

  • Hands-on knowledge and experience with the use of publication and communication software.

  • Experience in participating in and coordinating workshops and/or conferences.

  • Demonstrated willingness to accept flexibility in work assignments and a strong record of dependability and reliability as proven through good attendance and quality work.

Education/Experience :A Bachelor’s degree in a related area and 2 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Proven experience with communication planning and the development of a communication strategy for audiences with a broad technical background.

  • Comfort with public speaking and presentation

  • Experience serving as the interface between program and line management, including managing all aspects of moderately complex projects, with particular emphasis on schedule and timely reporting to sponsors.

  • Experience working in a multi-program science facility or scientific user facility; or familiarity with working in a research/technical environment and interacting with scientists and students.

  • Experience hosting tours and visitors.

  • College education and/or coursework in scientific or engineering field (e.g. physics, biology, chemistry, or material science)

Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, NM.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 -Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA SupplementalDirective 206.2. No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
