What You Will Do
The Computational Physics: Verification & Analysis group (XCP-8) at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) has openings for postdoctoral research associates in the area of deep machine learning with applications to dynamic data, associated uncertainty quantification, and deep machine learning interpretability. The selected candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary team with expertise including diagnostics, computational physics, materials science, mathematics, machine learning, and design & execution of dynamic experiments. The team also seeks to better understand uncertainties associated with deep machine learning predictions and also interpretability of those networks. Ultimately, this work is targeted at extracting much more information from available experimental data by better interfacing these data with advanced hydrodynamic codes and machine learning tools.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Proficiency in one of the following areas: machine learning (particularly convolutional neural networks), optimization or inverse problems, materials science, shock physics, or computational physics.
Demonstrated ability to communicate research to an interdisciplinary audience and work on an interdisciplinary team.
Experience with programming languages such as Python.
Demonstrated ability to publish research in peer-reviewed journals or conference proceedings.
Ph.D. in mathematics, materials science, physics, computer science, statistics, machine learning, or a closely related discipline completed within the past five years or to be completed soon prior to employment.
Ability and desire to obtain a Q clearance.
Proficiency with TensorFlow, pyTorch, or Keras.
Experience in shock physics.
Experience with deep machine learning techniques and interpretability approaches.
