Los Alamos National Laboratory Work Configuration and Control Specialist (WCCS) combustibles (Operation Support Specialist 3/4) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

You will report to the TA-55 Operations Manager and may be assigned to a 4-10 schedule from 1330 to 2300 to provide coverage for after hour operations. You will perform some of responsibilities of the Work Configuration and Control Specialist (WCCS) and will act as the After-hour TA55 Lock-out/tag-out coordinator. You will also be required in working with facility personnel in order to keep TA55 systems up to date for equipment status and control (e.g. database for caution tags, administrative locks, and hazardous energy locks/tags).

The after-hour WCCS coordinator will also act as the Safety Management Program (SMP) owner over the TA-55 Combustible Loading Program; this entails owning the TA-55 Combustible Loading process as outlined, and conducting and coordinating the required inspections.

This position will be filled at either the Operations Specialist 3 or 4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Conduct of Operations: Demonstrated experience working within a formal Conduct of Operations framework (DOE or equivalent).

Facility Operations: Exceptional knowledge of and experience with facility operations.

Professional Level Experience: Demonstrated experience and understanding Control of Equipment and System Status in accordance with LANL policy P315 (or equivalent)

Lockout/Tagout: Demonstrated experience with LANL Policy P101-3 “Lockout/Tagout for Hazardous Energy Control” or OSHA equivalent

Job Performance : Thorough understanding of the concepts and principles of Integrated Work Management and Integrated Safety Management (ISM) and Integrated Safeguards and Security Management (ISSM).

Policies and Procedures: Advanced knowledge of the Laboratory's facility operations policies, practices, and procedures, can apply them to resolve issues.

Legal Requirements: Advanced knowledge of legal requirements and environmental impacts affecting facility operations and administration.

Communication: Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication.

Qualifications: DOE Order 426.2 requires a Bachelor’s of Science in engineering or related science, 2 years of job-related experience, and 1 year of nuclear experience

Additional Job Requirements for (Operations Support Specialist 4):

In addition to the Job Requirements outlined above, qualification at the (Operations Support Specialist 4) level requires:

Safety: Expert of work hazards, safety practices, operating configuration, and lock-out/tag-out policies and procedures.

Customer Service: Exceptional customer service, organizational skills, and ability to interact with all levels of personnel internal and external to the Laboratory.

Presenting Reports: Expertise in preparing and presenting facility operations reports; collecting and organizing data and maintaining auditable records.

Work Ethic: Ability to self-supervise and works under consultative direction toward predetermined long-range targets.

Operations Support Specialist 3 Education Required: Position requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum eight years of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level, postgraduate course work may be desirable.

Operations Support Specialist 4 Education Required: Position requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of twelve years of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level, postgraduate course work may be expected.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience with the development or revision of technical procedures.

  • Knowledge of TA55 processes and systems

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 .   • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. SeeDOE Order 472.2for additional information.

HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.

426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
