What You Will Do
The Chemical Diagnostics and Engineering Group (C-CDE) at Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking an outstanding and highly motivated person for the position of Chemistry Research Technician 3/4. C-CDE is an applied technology organization focused on resolving national security-related issues in stockpile modernization, manufacturing and support, surveillance, applied and basic energy sciences, threat reduction, and the environment. The group's core approach involves the integrated development and application of technologies in Analytical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Electrochemistry, Materials Science, and Chemical Engineering. C-CDE engages in areas important to Laboratory missions, including material characterization and development and environmental mitigation. The highly interdisciplinary nature of these activities requires scientists and engineers who can seamlessly operate across academic disciplines. The successful applicant will work both collaboratively and independently on C-CDE projects, and within the Chemical Certification and Compatibility Laboratory (C3Lab).
Analytical Chemistry Research Tec 3/4
This position will be filled at either the Research Technician 3/Research Technician 4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Research Tec 3 - $66,100 - $103,600
This position supports the Chemical Certification and Compatibility laboratory, which analyzes hundreds of materials to specifications and performs compatibility studies on fluids, metals, and polymers. This program allows LANL to continue its mission while ensuring the quality of materials used meets specification. The selected candidate will work in the Trace Analytical and Material Characterization Team of the Chemical Diagnostic and Engineering Group (C-CDE). Responsibilities will include performing analytical chemistry measurements on non-radiological materials following established procedures, maintaining Quality Assurance/Quality Control documentation and records, ordering, stocking, and performing data entry and review. The selected candidate should be comfortable working with teammates and as guided by a supervisor.
Research Tec 4 - $72,800 - $115,400
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level the selected candidate should be comfortable working independently and with teammates, with limited direct supervision. Work may occasionally include non-routine and R&D samples.

What You Need

- Demonstrated experience with laboratory work in chemistry or a related discipline.
- Proven ability to work in a chemistry laboratory setting with corrosive and hazardous chemicals.
- Ability to lift up to 20lbs. and to work in a chemical hood for extended periods of time.
- Demonstrated experience documenting work performed and good communication skills.
- Ability to obtain DOE Q clearance (usually requires U.S. citizenship).
Additional Job Requirements for Research Technician 4:
In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:
- Demonstrated experience with sample preparation methods.
- Demonstrated experience with several of the following analytical techniques: FTIR, GC-MS, XRF, XRD, ICP-MS/OES, UV-vis, elemental analysis, titrators, quantitative and qualitative assays.
- Proven ability to work independently with initiative and complete assignments with minimum direction.
- Demonstrated experience following procedures, including being able to read documented procedures and reduce them to laboratory practice.
- Demonstrated experience ensuring work meets quality specifications.
Education/Experience at lower level (3):
