What You Will Do
The Engineering Technology and Design (E) Division seeks a Group Leader for the Automation, Robotics, and Controls (E-3) Group. This role is central to advancing mission-driven engineering and automation efforts and serves as a key member of the E Division leadership team, reporting directly to the Division Leader. The Group Leader will work closely with the E-3 Deputy Group Leader to provide strategic direction and hands-on leadership to a highly skilled technical team, driving the development of innovative engineering technologies critical to the Laboratory mission and ensuring successful program execution.
As Group Leader, the individual will oversee program execution and fiscal stewardship while fostering a culture of safety, security, and professional development. The position offers the opportunity to shape impactful projects, advance cutting-edge automation capabilities, and mentor engineers at all stages of their careers.
E-3 is a multidisciplinary team of engineers with diverse technical backgrounds, united by a focus on solving complex automation challenges. The group delivers advanced automation and robotics solutions that support the nuclear enterprise, with expertise spanning electrical engineering, process controls, robotics, and automation.

Minimum Job Requirements:
Leadership
Demonstrated experience in technical leadership through line management and/or program development/management functions. Experience leading and inspiring teams by developing and executing a strategic vision, fostering collaboration, exhibiting sound decision making and problem solving, and mentoring and developing team members.
Management
Demonstrated record of successful management of a technical team or an organizational group that includes experience in areas such as performance and salary management, staffing, budgeting, infrastructure, and organization of workflows and processes.
Technical Skills
Demonstrated record of technical achievement in engineering or a relevant scientific field. Preferred knowledge of one or more of the group's mission areas: electrical engineering, process controls, robotics and automation, and embedded systems.
Communication & Collaboration
Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to interact effectively with all levels of Laboratory personnel and external customers. An accomplished record of developing and fostering successful cross-organizational teams. Experience with proposal generation and team building.
Safety and Security
Demonstrated experience developing and implementing safety and operational requirements. Demonstrated success in improving workforce safety, security, environment, and health such as through implementing Human Performance Improvement (HPI) and/or Safe Conduct of Research (SCoR) principles, or equivalent techniques.
Education/Experience: Position requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and 8 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. A graduate degree in engineering is strongly preferred.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
