The C-AAC (Actinide Analytical Chemistry) Group within Chemistry Division has openings available for a manufacturing manager who will help to coordinate C-AAC activities in LANL's Plutonium Facility work spaces and a candidate to assist with PF-400 activities. A successful candidate should be familiar with standard chemical laboratory operations and will be responsible for directing and overseeing work performed by employees. C-AAC is seeking applicants who are committed to LANL safety and security standards and who have experience working in a radiological/nuclear facility. Work assignments are directly related to national security objectives and requires the individual to protect and maintain sensitive and or classified information.
The Actinide Analytical Chemistry (C-AAC) group at Los Alamos National Laboratory provides expertise in chemical and radiochemical analysis of materials where actinide elements make up a significant portion of the sample. These analyses range from assay of the major components down to trace analysis of impurities spanning over seven orders of magnitude of chemical analysis capability. In support of these capabilities, the group has the key facilities, glove boxes, hoods, analytical instrumentation, and technical expertise for safely handling and analyzing milligram to kilogram quantities of special nuclear material.

Education/Experience:
Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 1 year of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
DOE Order 426.2 Requirements: Requires a High School Diploma and 3 years nuclear experience. Full-time related academic training (e.g., degree programs, trade schools, vocational programs, etc.) may be substituted on a one-for-one basis for up to 2 years nuclear experience.
Desired Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience or specialized training for working with radioactive and nuclear materials
- Significant experience working in a glovebox or open front hood within a nuclear facility
- Demonstrated ability to follow formal process work instructions and procedures
- Experience supporting or performing laboratory activities including research, development, sample preparation or sample analysis
- Experience with defining work unit objectives and tasks in alignment with organizational objectives, and tracking and reporting on progress
- Knowledge of DOE Conduct of Operations and safety/security requirements for nuclear/radiological facilities
- Experience executing work in compliance with facility requirements
- Active Q clearance
- DOE Human Reliability Program approval
- Certified as a Fissionable Material Handler

Work Environment:
Work near sources of ionizing radiation and toxic chemicals. Work with safety glasses or eye protection, face shield, respirator, anti-C clothing, gloves, and safety shoes. Working in radiological enclosures.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Work Schedule: This position may require extended hours which could involve working a shift schedule. Employees may be eligible for shift differential pay when assigned by their manager. Shift assignments are at the discretion of the manager.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.
426.2A: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2A, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
