As part of the Associate Lab Directorate of Weapons Production (ALDWP), the work we do in Production Support Services Division (PSS) directly affects mission success across Los Alamos National Laboratory.
The Infrastructure and Data Services Team is seeking an experienced Computing Systems Professional 3 (CSP-3) to provide advanced systems administration, infrastructure engineering, and technical leadership supporting both Linux and Windows enterprise environments. In this role, you will design, implement, secure, and maintain complex heterogeneous computing infrastructures supporting scientific, engineering, manufacturing, and commercial applications in both unclassified and classified environments.
The successful candidate will be able to serve as a senior technical contributor responsible for the reliability, performance, security, and lifecycle management of enterprise systems while partnering with developers, database administrators, cybersecurity personnel, network engineers, and customers to deliver innovative infrastructure solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, administer, and support complex Linux (RHEL) and Windows server environments supporting mission-critical applications and services.
- Ensure the reliability, availability, performance, security, and compliance of computing infrastructure through proactive monitoring, patching, vulnerability remediation, troubleshooting, and lifecycle management.
- Lead and support infrastructure projects by gathering requirements, evaluating solutions, assessing risks, and implementing secure, scalable technologies.
- Develop and maintain automation, scripting, and configuration management solutions to improve operational efficiency, consistency, and system reliability.
- Research, evaluate, and implement emerging technologies to address evolving customer, business, and mission needs.
- Collaborate with customers, software developers, cybersecurity personnel, database administrators, vendors, and other technical teams to deliver effective infrastructure solutions and resolve complex technical issues.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, system inventories, and architecture documentation while providing technical guidance to team members as needed.
- Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to provide after-hours support for mission-critical Linux and Windows infrastructure, ensuring timely response and resolution of operational issues and service disruptions.
While the posted salary range for this position is broad, it is highly unusual for selected applicants to be hired at the top end of the range and more common for selected candidates to grow into the full salary band over time.

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements: Applicants must submit a comprehensive resume reflective of relevant experience that addresses the minimum job requirements and desired qualifications of the position below for full consideration.
- Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 8 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
- At this level, applicable advanced vendor and/or professional certification is desirable.
- Additional Skills and Knowledge:
- Demonstrated experience testing, troubleshooting, patching, and remediating vulnerabilities, as well as resolving operating system and application issues within a heterogeneous computing environment.
- Working knowledge of Windows Server 2022, virtualized environments, Microsoft IIS, Active Directory, and PowerShell scripting for system administration tasks.
- Experience supporting Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) or other Linux distributions.
- Skilled in using VMware for server and resource management.
- Experience with configuration management, preferably Ansible, for both Linux and Windows servers.
- Experience implementing authentication methods, configuring web and server certificates, and enabling Single Sign-On (SSO) for applications and systems.
- Experience applying computer security principles and networking protocols within computing environments.
- Demonstrated experience installing, configuring, and maintaining SQL Server 2019 Enterprise and associated databases.
- Demonstrated experience installing, configuring, and deploying Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) software in enterprise environments.
Qualifications We Desire:
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) administration experience in large-scale enterprise environments.
- Microsoft Windows Server administration experience, including Active Directory, Group Policy, IIS, and PowerShell.
- Experience supporting SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Redis, TimescaleDB, and/or other enterprise database platforms.
- Experience with AWS or other cloud computing platforms.
- Experience supporting AI/ML, GPU, high-performance computing (HPC), or scientific computing environments.
- Experience implementing Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), NIST cybersecurity controls, or similar compliance frameworks.
- Experience with monitoring and observability platforms such as Dynatrace, Splunk, or similar tools.
- Advanced vendor certifications (e.g., Red Hat, Microsoft, VMware, AWS, Security+, or related technologies).
- An active DOE Q-level clearance.
Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, New Mexico. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. This is not a Telework or Remote position. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.
Work Schedule: This position may/will require 24/7 coverage, which could/will involve working a shift/weekend schedule. Employees may be eligible for the shift differential pay when assigned by their manager. Shift/weekend assignments are at the discretion of the manager.
Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level).
