What You Will Do

The Integrated Weapons Experiments (J) Division's Engineering Operations and Physics (J-6) Group is seeking a Controls Engineer Post-Bachelor Student to support accelerator control system software and hardware for the Dual-Axis Radiographic Hydrodynamic Test (DARHT) Facility. J-6 delivers state-of-the-art capabilities in support of Los Alamos National Laboratory's hydrodynamic test mission. Core responsibilities include physics, diagnostics and data acquisition, controls, timing, pulsed power, mechanical systems, and operations essential to DARHT's accelerators. The group also conducts R&D to advance accelerator capabilities.

In this role, the selected candidate will collaborate with a diverse team of scientists, engineers, technologists, and technicians on DARHT projects and programs, while receiving training on the specialized software and hardware used across both accelerators.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:
Control Systems
Familiarity with common electronic/electrical test equipment, knowledge of data acquisition systems and the applications of creative problem-solving.

Programming

Programming experience with high-level languages and control system software in a Microsoft Windows environment.

Engineering

Demonstrated knowledge in electrical engineering, electrical drawings, one-line diagram, electrical circuits.

Communication

Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to

interact with all levels of personnel and customers. Experience with collaboration across

organizational boundaries and the ability to manage these relationships in a positive manner.

Education/Experience: Must have earned a Bachelor's degree from an ABET accredited institution within the last 3 years in Electrical Engineering.

Must have graduated with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or above on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent).

Desired Qualifications:

Experience with electronics and typical lab equipment such as oscilloscopes and DVMs.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance, and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
