We are seeking a Deputy Group Leader for the Institutional Services Division Telecommunication Services Group (ISD-TS). ISD-TS provides the technologies and services that enable science, operations, and communication at LANL. Services span across:
- Telephony Systems: VoIP and analog phone systems
- Video and Collaboration Tools: Video teleconferencing, Webex, Zoom
- Mobile Services: Smartphones, tablets, pagers
- Land Mobile Radio System: Supporting LANL, Los Alamos Fire Department, and Police Department
- Wireless Networks: Secure internal wireless communication
- Infrastructure Projects: Design and deployment of fiber optic, copper, and wireless infrastructure
This position plays a key role in shaping, guiding, and supporting essential telecommunication services for one of the world's foremost research institutions. This position requires frequent collaboration with the Group Leader, Deputy Division Leader, and Division Leader to help drive innovation and operational excellence across Los Alamos National Laboratory's telecommunications landscape. This position will assist in strategic planning, group management, and operational execution, contributing to Los Alamos National Laboratory's core mission through secure, reliable communication infrastructure.
As an important part of the ISD-TS leadership team supporting the delivery of critical communication services across the Lab, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Assisting in leadership and direction of the group's operations, projects, and personnel.
- Supporting implementation and oversight of IT initiatives within the group.
- Building and sustaining strong customer relationships and cross-organizational collaborations.
- Promoting a strong culture of safety, security, ethics, and inclusivity.
- Contributing to administrative and operational processes in alignment with division goals.
- Motivating team members to exceed expectations while fostering a respectful and collaborative work environment.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Advanced knowledge and demonstrated experience supporting technical services including networks, tools, and applications.
- Demonstrated experience in leading an IT team/organization in all aspects of organizational management, capability and staff development, performance, and salary management.
- Demonstrated experience collaborating across organizational boundaries and the ability to manage customer relationships in a positive manner.
- Demonstrated experience managing budgets and external audits
- Experience in applying project management principles to set project scope, schedule, priorities, and deliverables.
- Advanced knowledge and experience in at least one of the core IT functions listed above.
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field from an accredited institution and 5 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience leading continuous improvement initiatives.
- Advanced knowledge supporting 24/7 operations.
- Experience in deploying and managing enterprise-wide network or telecommunications services.
- Experience with telecommunication services including TDM, VoIP, Cellular, Video Teleconferencing.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
