- Organization : V-21/Weapons Test Execution
- City, State: Los Alamos, New Mexico
- Recruiter Name: Lujan, Miranda
- Recruiter Email: mlujan@lanl.gov
The Weapons Test Execution Group (V-21) is responsible for delivering high-fidelity test articles to resolve critical weapon design questions. V-21 provides expertise to facilitate design, fabrication, assembly and fielding of experiments for small components up to full scale integrated tests. Test activities include collaborations with weapon sustainment and modernization programs, the hydrodynamic test programs, subcritical experiments programs, and may include joint test operations with Sandia National Laboratory, Lockheed Martin Space, and others. Projects vary widely from small weapon component experiments to system level testing to validate both functional and engineering design performance requirements.
Experiments supported by V-21 span a wide range of engineering disciplines including explosives testing, thermal and mechanical environments testing, electrical testing, electromagnetic environments testing, and flight testing. Experiments require partnership across many specialized organizations; the coordination of these capabilities falls under the purview of V-21.
The successful candidate will work in V-21 on the Authentication of Engineering Requirements and Objectives (AERO) Team as an electrical or electromagnetic test lead for development, qualification, or surveillance tests in support of LANL and other Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE) customers. Principal responsibilities in this position include:
- Working with program partners to develop experimental requirements and objectives
- Overseeing experimental design, fabrication, and assembly
- Collaborating with numerous capabilities across the Laboratory to field and execute experiments
- Post-test analysis and reporting, and disposition of hardware
- Preparation and oversight of associated test scope, schedule, and budget
This position will be filled at either the R&D Engineer 2 or 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate.
R&D Engineer 2 ($104,100 - $172,200)
At the R&D Engineer 2 level, you will function in the test lead role in support of a development, qualification, or surveillance test for LANL systems groups of other nuclear security enterprise partners. You will interface regularly with program partners, plan and schedule work in support of test objectives, participate in test execution, and prepare test evidence in the form of data packages and final reports.
R&D Engineer 3 ($125,200 - $211,300)
In addition to R&D 2 responsibilities, an R&D Engineer 3 will provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior staff and interface with program partners to engage in strategic planning for future tests and experimental capabilities.
