Graphics and Mesh Generation Developer (Scientist 1)

This position is open for external candidates only to apply.

What You Will Do

Join our world-class team! Now is your chance to make a difference in supporting our national security mission. The XCP-4, Continuum Models and Numerical Methods, group of Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking qualified candidates for a postdoctoral position researching methods and developing software at the intersection of computational geometry, mesh generation, geometric modeling, computer graphics and machine learning.

XCP-4 is responsible for the design and implementation of a wide variety of physical models and simulation setup software including high explosive, turbulence, solid dynamics and damage models, and is a leader in the development of numerical methods for hydrodynamics simulations, remap and computational meshes.

The candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary team that does research and production quality software development on methods for field remapping, material interface tracking, code-to-code linking, and automated simulation workflows. The team is also researching methods to apply AI/ML methods to improve geometric processing and meshing tasks, including shape recognition and shape segmentation. All software is developed and deployed in world-class high performance computing Unix environments with multi-core CPUs and GPUs.

The successful candidate will contribute within a collaborative team environment to research, develop, implement, and integrate methods for computer graphics, visualization and mesh generation algorithms into user facing tools and workflows. The candidate will be responsible for developing and enhancing the visualization and UI/UX aspects of the team's 3D geometry manipulation and mesh generation software. They will also have a strong interest in developing methods for computational geometry and mesh generation research.

They will actively participate in team decisions on algorithms and research and collaborate with team members to develop and maintain software; therefore, the ability to work well in a team environment is extremely important, as is the ability to interact with users in an efficient and productive manner.
