What You Will Do
The Innovative Customer Experience (ICE) Division is seeking a versatile and collaborative leader to join the division leadership team as the Deputy Division Leader. This role will help shape the strategic direction of the organization while enhancing the quality, reliability, and effectiveness of services delivered to Laboratory customers. The successful candidate will contribute to building a high-performing organization and fostering a workplace culture recognized for operational excellence, innovation, and employee engagement.
The ICE Division provides enterprise IT operational support across the Laboratory environment. Reporting to the LANL Chief Information Officer (CIO), ICE operates as a distinct division while maintaining alignment under a unified Information and Technology (I&T) strategy. The division supports multiple operational reporting lines to ensure integration and alignment with the Laboratory's mission priorities.
In this role, you will partner with division leadership to develop and execute strategic initiatives, manage organizational operations, and promote a safe, secure, and inclusive work environment. You will support the LANL mission by delivering reliable and innovative technology solutions while collaborating with stakeholders across the Laboratory to align priorities, resources, and operational goals.
You will also help drive operational excellence by improving service delivery models, advancing I&T technical roadmaps, and providing leadership in the modernization of enterprise IT services. This position requires balancing innovation, operational efficiency, cybersecurity, compliance, and customer experience to ensure the organization remains responsive to evolving mission and technology needs.

IT Operations and Strategy
- Demonstrated expertise collaborating with IT leadership and business stakeholders to deliver effective technology solutions, establish organizational objectives, interpret institutional policies, and execute operational goals within a large and complex enterprise environment.
- Demonstrated success improving IT service delivery through operational standardization, process maturity, governance, and service management practices that enhance the end-user experience and improve organizational efficiency.
Demonstrated leadership experience in enterprise IT infrastructure and service delivery, including:
- IT configuration, asset, and change management practices
- Customer-facing IT operations and enterprise support services
- IT service management (ITSM) frameworks and operational excellence initiatives
- Development and execution of technical roadmaps and modernization strategies
- Operational resiliency, reliability, and continuous service improvement
- Enterprise observability, monitoring, and operational analytics
- Large-scale incident response and service restoration practices
- Vendor, partner, and contract management
- Organizational leadership development, workforce planning, and team growth
- Cross-functional coordination across infrastructure, operations, engineering, cybersecurity, and support organizations
Leadership
- Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional IT organizations and driving organizational change through both strategic planning and tactical execution in a large-scale IT environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-management skills, with the ability to prioritize competing demands, negotiate effectively, and collaborate with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to build high-performing teams, mentor leaders, foster accountability, and create a culture focused on operational excellence, innovation, customer service, and continuous improvement.
- Experience leading organizations that support operational environments and mission-critical services.
Strategic Collaboration
- Demonstrated success building strong partnerships with IT organizations and mission-support customers while effectively communicating complex technical and operational information to diverse audiences.
- Proven ability to influence decision-making, build consensus across organizations, and maintain effective working relationships in sensitive or high-visibility situations.
- Experience aligning technology investments and operational priorities with organizational mission objectives and customer needs.
Business Management and Development
Demonstrated business and operational management experience, including:
- Budget development and administration
- Resource planning and workforce management
- Operational scheduling and prioritization
- Performance metrics, reporting, and analytics
- Data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives
- Delivery of innovative technology and business solutions within a large IT organization
- Experience developing operational strategies that balance mission delivery, cybersecurity, compliance, cost effectiveness, operational resilience, and customer satisfaction.
Education/Experience: Position requires a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field from an accredited institution and 12 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
- Cloud technologies and hybrid infrastructure strategies
- Artificial intelligence and automation technologies that improve operational efficiency and customer experience
- Demonstrated experience with cybersecurity technologies, security operations, and compliance practices
- Experience supporting and managing classified computing environments
- Demonstrated experience with Zero Trust architecture, cybersecurity modernization, or enterprise security transformation initiatives
- Ten or more years of IT operational leadership experience
- Demonstrated experience supporting audits, assessments, and regulatory compliance activities
- Experience working with LANL's Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) and the Los Alamos Field Office (NA-LA)
- Demonstrated success maturing IT service delivery organizations through operational standardization, governance, and process improvement initiatives
- Experience implementing or managing enterprise IT service management (ITSM) practices and platforms
- Experience leading modernization initiatives involving cloud adoption, automation, AI-enabled operations, digital transformation, or enterprise infrastructure modernization
- Experience managing enterprise vendors, strategic partnerships, and technology contracts
- ITIL certification or demonstrated application of ITIL principles and service management best practices
- Active DOE Q Clearance
Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, NM Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 Year.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance, and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
