Mesh Generation Postdoc

What You Will Do

Join our world-class team! Now is your chance to make a difference in supporting our national security mission. The XCP-4, Continuum Models and Numerical Methods, group of Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking qualified candidates for a postdoctoral position researching methods at the intersection of computational geometry, mesh generation and machine learning.

XCP-4 is responsible for the design and implementation of a wide variety of physical models and simulation setup software including high explosive, turbulence, solid dynamics and damage models, and is a leader in the development of numerical methods for hydrodynamics simulations, remap and computational meshes.

The successful candidate will contribute within a collaborative team environment to research, develop, implement, and integrate methods for machine learning aided block structured mesh generation algorithms. The candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary team that also includes research and development on methods for field remapping, material interface tracking, code-to-code linking, and automated simulation workflows. All the work is done in high performance computing environments with multi-core CPUs and GPUs using UNIX operating systems.

The successful candidate will have strong skills in the domain areas of unstructured and block-structured mesh generation, mesh adaptivity, geometric modeling methods and computational geometry. They will actively participate in team decisions on algorithms and research and collaborate with team members to develop and maintain software; therefore, the ability to work well in a team environment is extremely important, as is the ability to interact with users in an efficient and productive manner.
