Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution dedicated to advancing science and engineering in support of national security. As a postdoctoral researcher in the Engineering Division's Modern Manufacturing Methodologies Group, you will join a world-class team pioneering advances in modern manufacturing, risk analysis and management, and systems engineering.
In this role, you will contribute to a cross-disciplinary R&D effort focused on developing innovative solutions to complex technical challenges. Specifically, you will enhance and validate model-based systems engineering (MBSE) models to advance artificial intelligence (AI) analysis capabilities within cutting-edge manufacturing frameworks.
You will collaborate closely with experts across LANL who bring exceptional breadth and depth of knowledge in engineering, mathematics, statistics, and computational science. What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Strong understanding of computer-aided design (CAD) modeling to support the development of large language models (LLMs) capable of generating corrective design suggestions.
- Demonstrated proficiency in at least one software programming language applicable to artificial intelligence (AI) development or model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively within a diverse, multidisciplinary research team.
- Self-motivated and independent researcher with a track record of contributing to interdisciplinary projects that integrate multiple areas of expertise.

Education/Experience:
Doctoral Degree (Ph.D.) in Industrial engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related STEM field of engineering, math, or physics.
Desired Qualifications:
- Proven record of technical achievement, demonstrated through publications, reports, intellectual property, and/or developed technical products.
- Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals and a demonstrated history of conducting successful, collaborative research within interdisciplinary teams.
- Experience developing AI applications, including design, training, or implementation of machine learning or language models.
- Familiarity with large ("big") datasets and working knowledge of model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools and methodologies.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Salary: Competitive salaries are based on the date the PhD degree requirements were completed, or the degree was awarded. Starting salary for a fresh PhD is currently $97,000.
