Network Services Team Lead (Cybersecurity Technical Staff 3/4)

What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Cybersecurity Technical Staff 3/4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

As a Team Leader in the Infrastructure Service Division - Network Services Group (ISD-NS), you'll have the opportunity to lead a team of IT professionals in designing, implementing, and monitoring complex networks.

You will do some of the most challenging and rewarding work in the field, overseeing the day-to-day operations of our remote access, network services, firewalls, DNS, F5s, and cross-domain solutions in both unclassified and classified networks. As a Team Leader, you will do the following:

  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide day-to-day management and operation of a team, helping your team members grow and succeed.
  • Foster a positive team environment that encourages mutual respect, accountability, and a culture of excellence.
  • Experience with project management methodologies being a liaison including planning, documenting, and collaborating with technical teams.


In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level you will do the following:

  • Oversee the architecting and implementation of a diverse portfolio of core network services.
  • Lead your team to resolve large-scale incidents, including service outages, and ensure that our networks remain up and running.
  • Develop and manage all aspects of moderate to high-risk projects, working closely with stakeholders to ensure successful completion within approved scope, schedule, and budget.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Prior experience mentoring and guiding team members.
  • Proven experience with procurement, program management and coordination, with a focus on effective planning and execution.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel and serve as a liaison between technical and business stakeholders.
  • Previous experience leading a mid-size team, consisting of at least 6-12 people.
  • Advanced knowledge of and demonstrated experience with all aspects of current network technology including network protocols, network infrastructure elements, and network applications, services and related protocols.


Additional Job Requirements for the higher level:

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:

  • Advanced experience supporting and administering four or more of the following technologies: DNS, Remote Access, Network Access, Firewalls, F5, and/or security appliances.
  • In-depth knowledge of all aspects of current network technology, including network protocols, network infrastructure elements, and network applications, services, and related protocols.
  • Expertise in distributed systems, including system architectures, computer networks, and software.
Education/Experience at lower level:

Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field from an accredited institution and 8 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Education/Experience at higher level:



Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 12 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, advanced vendor and/or professional certifications are highly desirable and post graduate course work may be expected.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Proven experience with employee performance management.
  • Strong background with purchasing and budgeting.
  • Proven ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Active DOE-Q Clearance.


Essential Job Functions (can perform with or without reasonable accommodation): Lifting 30+ pounds, ability to operate a motor vehicle, standing, bending, stooping, squatting, prolonged sitting and typing, climb ladders, distinguishing color-coded cables, reading small text on equipment, and troubleshooting auditory signals, working in, or in close proximity to, server rooms (loud noises, cool temperatures).

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 Year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance, and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
