This position will be filled at either the Occupational Safety and Health Professional level 1 or level 2, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Occupational Safety and Health Professional 1 ($45,000 - $69,600)
Reporting to the Wellness Center Team Leader, this position provides preventive and rehabilitative institutional occupational safety and health services and programming, including, but not limited to, institutional wellness motivational programs, health and safety education classes and events, injury prevention training, surveillance medical programming, wellness facility operations and programming, and satellite wellness facilities operations.
You will support daily Wellness Center operations and programs, including workplace health, safety, and injury prevention initiatives. You will assist with wellness classes, trainings, and events, provide health education, and help maintain the facility and any satellite locations. You will also staff and supervise the center, ensure smooth operations, deliver excellent customer service, and follow established procedures.
Occupational Safety and Health Professional 2 ($49,600 - $76,700)
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level, candidates hired at this level will be expected to:
Support the programs and services related to the Wellness Center and institutional wellness initiatives. Including providing exceptional customer service through supervision and staffing of the Wellness Center Facility, while also proving basic work processes and functions for facility.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Foundational understanding of exercise science and a demonstrated ability to learn and apply laboratory procedures
- Experience helping lead or assist others in a health, fitness, or wellness setting
- Basic understanding of health, fitness, nutrition, and injury prevention
- Ability to provide friendly and helpful customer service during classes, consultations, and daily facility use
- Basic awareness of ways to promote wellness programs and encourage participation
- Familiarity with general health and fitness practices, along with respect for privacy and confidentiality
- Basic understanding of workplace health and safety guidelines
- Ability to help keep the facility running smoothly, including assisting with closing duties in the evening
Additional Job Requirements for higher level title:
In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:
- Intermediate experience supervising or instructing in a health & fitness or corporate wellness setting
- Working knowledge of health, fitness, nutrition, and injury prevention principles
- Ability to deliver excellent customer service through classes, consultations, and facility support
- Intermediate knowledge of wellness program marketing and motivational incentive strategies
- Intermediate experience with health & fitness practices, patient advocacy, and confidentiality standards (PHI)
- Understanding of occupational health and safety practices
- Ability to maintain operational excellence, including late evening facility closing
Training/Certifications: Current (or in progress) certification/licensure from a nationally accredited organization (e.g., ACSM, NSCA, NASM, ACE, AFAA) in one of the following:
- Health
- Fitness
- Nutrition and Dietetics
- Wellness
Education/Experience for Occupational Safety and Health Professional 1: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Education/Experience for Occupational Safety and Health Professional 2: Position requires a bachelor's degree and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience in health promotion, preventive medicine, and health education initiatives
- Proficiency with computers, office software, and web-based systems
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills across diverse groups
- Current First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Essential Job Functions (can perform with or without reasonable accommodation): Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 50 lbs frequently. Ability to infrequently lift and move items weighing over 50 lbs.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
