Postdoctoral Research Associate
- Req. Number: IRC138052
- Organization : APPLIED COMPUTER SCIENCE/ CCS-7
- City, State: Los Alamos, New Mexico
Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in science and engineering on behalf of national security. The Applied Computer Science Team (CCS-7) is looking for a postdoctoral researcher with strong heterogenous programming skills. With the increasing architectural diversity on DOE's supercomputers, e.g. Nvidia, Intel, and AMD hardware, performance portability is essential to make sure that all applications and codes can be used on all supercomputers.
We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join a multidisciplinary research team and contribute to the development of new tools and libraries for performance-portable applications. This work involves complex programming work as well as significant collaboration with application developers.
Our current work has a focus on performance portability using Kokkos. The applicant's job is twofold. First, many of LANL's C++ and Fortran simulation programs need to be ported to use Kokkos for performance portability. One responsibility will be to support application developers in integrating Kokkos into various LANL applications. Second, LANL supports the Flexible Computational Science Infrastructure (FleCSI) project, which uses Kokkos and C++ distributed/parallel programming library HPX. The responsibility here is to maintain support for Kokkos and HPX in FleCSI and implement new features required by application developers, including feature contributions and bug fixes to Kokkos and HPX.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Experience with C++ programming language.
- Demonstrated capability to contribute to large code projects.
- Excellent communication skills (both oral and written).
- Demonstrated experience in conducting original scientific research through peer-reviewed publication record.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience writing performance-portable codes, e.g. Kokkos, Raja, or SYCL.
- Experience with GPU programming, e.g. CUDA, HIP, or SYCL.
- Experience using asynchronous many-task systems or task-based programming, e.g. HPX, Charm++, or Legion.
- Experience with build systems, e.g., CMake.
- Experience with version control, e.g., git.
- Experience in collaborative software development.
- Ability to adapt to new requirements for projects and be flexible to learn new areas of research as needed.
