Procurement Engineer 1/2 (R&D Engineer 1/2)

What You Will Do
This position may be filled at the R&D Engineer 1 or 2 level.

The Maintenance Procurement Engineering Team under the Supply Chain Logistics (SCL-1) Group is seeking energetic and customer-focused seasoned Procurement Engineers to lead Procurement Engineering functions in support of Facility and/or Programmatic Maintenance efforts at TA-55 and surrounding areas. Selected candidates will assist the first-line manager in development and delivery of standardized and robust training to support a dynamic workforce that performs a wide range of activities including leading project walk-downs, extracting data from engineering drawings and specifications, development of comprehensive procurement packages, performing equivalency evaluations for obsolete parts, acting as procurement SME in Integrated Project Team (IPT)meetings, interacting with warehouse personnel, managing Consolidate Bill of Material Database and other related activities aimed at providing efficient and professional support to its many customers.

The selected candidate(s) will identify inefficient processes, work to continually improve inefficiencies by formalizing and standardizing the subject processes, then apply these principles to improve the handling of critical and essential spares, preventive and corrective maintenance efforts and process consumable procurements.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

R&D Engineer 1
  • Reliable internet connection to enable offsite work.
  • Report to site in Los Alamos as needed for project meetings, material walkdowns, and/or team meetings.
  • Ability to work a shift schedule that could include night or weekend work depending on business needs.
  • Initiate and manage shift hand off communication. Gather required information when coming on shift and report progress and ongoing action items when leaving.
  • Assists with applying complex, integrated and overlapping requirements for nuclear, manufacturing and/or production facilities to include but not limited to weapon quality and nuclear safety.
  • Assists with evaluating materials to procure for a nuclear facility and/or highly regulated environment.
  • Develop proficiency in applying QA principles outlined in ISO and/or NQA-1 quality programs.
  • Maintain all training current necessary to perform job function
  • Familiarity with evaluating materials and creating material take offs from engineering design packages
  • Familiarity with materials management and reporting in IPT meetings.
  • Participate in the conceptual and other design reviews.
  • Ability to serve as TSME to create comprehensive procurement packages including QA requirements, SOWs and other exhibits.

Education and Experience

R&D Engineer 1: Position requires a Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited institution related to the occupation combined with 2 years of related experience may be desired.

Candidates that meet the degree requirement, but who do not meet the two-year experience requirement, are encouraged to apply and may be considered for hire through an allowable variance

In Addition to the above requirements, the higher level position will require these additional requirements
  • Experience applying complex, integrated and overlapping requirements for nuclear, manufacturing and/or production facilities to include but not limited to weapon quality and nuclear safety.
  • Proficiency evaluating materials to procure for a nuclear facility and/or highly regulated environment.
  • Proficiency applying QA principles outlined in ISO and/or NQA-1 quality programs.
  • Experience developing and delivering training to technical staff
  • Experience evaluating materials and creating material take offs from engineering design packages
  • Experience with materials management and reporting in IPT meetings.
  • Proficiency with contributing to conceptual and other design reviews.
  • Serve as TSME to create comprehensive procurement packages including QA requirements, SOWs and other exhibits.
  • Ability to lead walk-downs aimed at understanding project scope and validate existing conditions.

Computing/Business Systems

Above average computer skills and demonstrated proficient experience with Inventory Control, Material Tracking systems such as the CBOM, and proficient in various software suites, including but not limited to, Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.

Customer Service

Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to provide clear, concise support and guidance to others in sometimes stressful situations. Experience interacting professionally with all types of personnel, including external interfaces and executive management.

Communication
Record of effective written and oral communication skills as evidenced by internal and/or external interactions, seminars, briefings, presentations, or publications. Ability to communicate findings and make recommendations.

Organizational Skills

Possess high attention to detail including excellent organizational skills, analytical thinking, observational skills and problem-solving skills all to include high accuracy. Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and adjust to the workings of a dynamic and cohesive fast-paced team environment.

Equipment Maintenance Plans

Demonstrated experience working to preventive and corrective maintenance plans with good understanding of forecasting material needs.

Education and Experience

R&D Engineer 2: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution and 4 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired:
  • Active DOE Q Clearance
  • Familiarity with LANL Engineering Standards Manual/Master Specifications
  • Knowledge of industry, regulatory, or DOE/NNSA complex specific codes, standards

Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level).
