The Supply Chain Logistics Division's (SCL-DO) Procurement Engineering & Acquisition Management (SCL-1) team is seeking a skilled Engineering Technologist 1 to perform Procurement Engineering activities for individually assigned projects in support of multiple construction programs in and around TA55.

This candidate will be responsible for extracting technical data from engineering drawings and specifications to ensure procured materials meet design requirements as they pertain to national codes and standards as well as LANL quality requirements. They will manage a consolidated bill of materials (CBOM), and interface with procurement and warehousing teams as materials are made available to support construction project objectives. They will also participate in IPT meetings and serve as a primary SCL-1 point of contact for project personnel.

While the posted salary range for this position is broad, it is highly unusual for selected applicants to be hired at the top end of the range and more common for selected candidates to grow into the full salary band over time.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements: Applicants must submit a comprehensive resume reflective of relevant experience that addresses the minimum job requirements and desired qualifications of the position below for full consideration.

  • Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology, Science, Math or related degree from an accredited institution and 2 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
  • Additional Skills and Knowledge:
    • A basic understanding of the supply chain management process and strategies.
    • Familiarity with reviewing technical specifications and engineering design drawings to extract technical information.
    • Basic understanding of national codes and standards used to establish material characteristics.
    • Basic knowledge of QA standards and applicability.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (e.g., Access, Excel & Word) along with experience using other relevant software programs.
    • A reliable internet connection to enable offsite work.
    • The ability to report to site in Los Alamos as needed for project meetings, material walkdowns, and/or team meetings.
    • The ability to work a shift schedule that could include night or weekend work depending on business needs.
    • The ability to initiate and manage shift hand off communication (i.e., gather required information when coming on shift and report progress and ongoing action items when leaving).
    • The ability to handle multiple activities with minimal supervision.
    • The ability to deliver clear and concise written and oral communication.
    • The ability to work independently and in a team setting to deliver outstanding customer service.


Qualifications We Require:

  • Knowledge of relevant Los Alamos Laboratory procedures, standards, and guides.
  • Knowledge of industry, regulatory, or DOE/NNSA complex specific codes and standards.
  • An active DOE Q-level clearance.


Term Appointment: This position is for a Term Appointment: hired for periods of up to a maximum of 10 years. Term employees are at-will and may be terminated at any time.

Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, New Mexico. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. This is not a Telework or Remote position. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Work Schedule: This position may/will require 24/7 coverage, which could/will involve working a shift/weekend schedule. Employees may be eligible for the shift differential pay when assigned by their manager. Shift/weekend assignments are at the discretion of the manager.

Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2: Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law.
