What You Will Do

Use your skills to support our national security mission! Prototype Fabrication (PF) is seeking a qualified Production Control Specialist 1 to join the division's Integrated Logistics & Asset Management (ILAM) group.
PF Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory provides machining, fabrication and dimensional inspection of critical hardware needed to support the nation's stockpile stewardship efforts. Join our dedicated staff of engineers, machinists, dimensional inspectors, and other staff supporting multiple programs with manufactured components ranging in size through a wide variety of materials for a broad customer base.

As a Production Control Specialist 1, you will be tasked with providing vital inventory management support to the entire division to enable efficient and compliant operations. These responsibilities include a broad range of inventory control activities to include managing classified inventory, receiving incoming raw stock material, identifying and ordering general shop supplies, stocking and managing an automated inventory control system, conducting cycle counts, aiding in the proper management of controlled storage locations, chemical inventory, and other general shop tasks to maintain a safe, secure and organized work area.

This position receives supervision and technical guidance from more experienced inventory control personnel and group management. Work is evaluated on completion to ensure objectives have been met. This position has regular contact with group management and general staff.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Technical
  • Demonstrated experience with detailed record keeping and strong organizational skills, e.g., inventory, records, and materials logs.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with typical business software, computer hardware, and use of computer systems, specifically, spreadsheets, procurement systems and inventory databases.
  • Ability to safely handle material of various shapes, sizes, weights, and of high value, in the receipt and distribution of materials around a shop floor and across the LANL campus.
  • Ability to work in a high consequence environment, where safety and security requirements are fully understood and always followed.
Communication and Teamwork
  • Demonstrated experience interacting in a customer service-related setting and the ability to work effectively and cohesively in a team environment to meet established objectives.
  • Strong writing ability and verbal communication skills required to independently prepare and present data and reports to peers, senior colleagues, management, and customers.
  • Demonstrated record of dependability, reliability, and commitment to the long-term needs of the job duties and programmatic goals of the organization.
Education/Experience:
Position requires 2 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.

Training/Certifications: You must have the ability to acquire and maintain pertinent certifications, such as: Radiological Worker II; Beryllium Worker; classified matter custodian (CMC); forklift operator; crane operator; and others that may apply.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience working with inventory management software to properly manage consumables in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with annual inventory audits and assessments to ensure accurate inventory records.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position Commitment:

Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2: Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular Position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
