Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Project/Program Specialist 1 to provide specialized project and program support within a dynamic mission-focused environment. In this role, you will assist project leaders and program managers in planning, organizing, and controlling resources and processes to achieve project objectives within established scope, schedule, quality, and budget requirements.
The successful candidate will support project execution activities including work package development, cost estimating and analysis, schedule maintenance and reporting, risk management, and stakeholder communication. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical personnel across the Laboratory.
Key Responsibilities
- Support project and program managers in planning, organizing, and controlling resources and processes to achieve project objectives.
- Assist with the development and implementation of operational plans, work packages, and project deliverables.
- Support cost estimating, cost analysis, budget tracking, and cost control activities.
- Assist with schedule development, maintenance, reporting, and monitoring activities.
- Monitor assigned project activities and provide analysis, modeling, and status reporting to project leadership.
- Coordinate with project, program, and line management to ensure resources are available and appropriately qualified to complete assigned work.
- Identify potential project risks and assist in developing mitigation strategies and corrective actions.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and project documentation to communicate project status, issues, and recommendations.
- Ensure compliance with Laboratory policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Foster a safe, secure, respectful, and inclusive work environment.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements
Project and Program Support
- Knowledge of project or program management principles and practices.
- Ability to support project planning, execution, monitoring, and reporting activities.
- Understanding of project scope, schedule, budget, and risk management concepts.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal customers and stakeholders.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with personnel at all organizational levels.
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
- Experience creating, editing, and maintaining professional documentation.
- Experience using AI-enabled platforms to assist with document drafting is desirable.
- Experience with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Project is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and manage multiple assignments.
- Ability to analyze information, identify issues, and recommend solutions.
- Experience monitoring project activities and reporting status, issues, and risks.
- Ability to build trust, gain consensus, and resolve conflicts in a collaborative environment.

Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 2 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Essential Job Functions
Safety and Security
Safety and security are a primary responsibility for all Laboratory employees. The selected candidate will maintain required safety and security training, ensure compliance with Laboratory requirements, and make safety and security an integral part of every task, including stopping work when conditions are unsafe or security could be compromised.
Work Environment
This position is primarily performed in an office environment and may require prolonged periods of computer use, document review, and participation in meetings.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience supporting federally funded projects or programs.
- Familiarity with Laboratory policies, procedures, and project management processes.
- Experience supporting cost and schedule management activities.
- Experience preparing project reports, briefings, and presentations for management.
- Exposure to technical, scientific, engineering, or research environments.
- Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 2 year.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
