The Weapons Product Definition Group (E-11) provides mechanical design engineering, computer aided design and drafting support to weapons engineering programs and ensures ongoing support and maintenance of all the active stockpile weapons systems, hydrodynamic tests, sub-critical experiments and related qualification efforts.
E-11 is looking for a Science/Engineering Project Leader to join our team. The Science/Engineering Project Leader will be responsible for creation, configuration, and maintenance of product structures for the W93 system and all associated tail numbers within our Product Data Management system (PDM Link). In this role you will negotiate with all customers including other NSA sites to create EPDM standards and product structure.
The successful candidate must have demonstrated extensive experience with experience in draft/design work in both weapons and non-weapons arenas, project management, including developing project plans, scope, schedule, budget, and negotiating work packages.
The selected candidate's work scope will include:
- Creating and maintaining Product Structures for the W93 and all other tail numbers. (The W93 work is a system requirement)
- Creating standards, training documentation, and performing training classes to ensure everyone is aware of and using the standards
- Negotiate with all customers including other NSA sites to create EPDM standard and product structure.
- Defining and maintaining the data model and hierarchical structure for product information stored in the product data management system (PDM Link), including parts, assemblies, bill of materials, documents, etc.
- Configuring PDMLink to support the organization's specific product development processes and data management requirements.
- Running projects including scope, schedule, budget, and negotiating work packages for the W93 product structure
- Independently maintaining product structures in PDMLink for the W93 and all other tails.
- Establishing and enforcing standards, policies, and workflows for how product data is created, modified, versioned, and released within PDMLink.
- Coordinating with cross-functional teams (engineering, manufacturing, etc.) to ensure the PDMLink data structure aligns with their needs.
- Troubleshooting and resolving any issues or inconsistencies in the product data stored within PDMLink.
- Analyzing the product data management system data and generating reports to support product-related decision making.
- Evaluating and implementing enhancements or upgrades to the product data management system as needed
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Design Experience
Experience in mechanical computer aided design, manufacturing, inspection, assembly and testing. Experience checking Creo models and drawings for form, fit, and function, conducting tolerance and stack analysis, as well as standards compliance. Advanced and proven mechanical design experience for ensuring product definition meets requirements for producibility while reducing product defects. Advanced knowledge and experience in recommending methods for improvement, which comply with NNSA, laboratory and industry standards, and best practices for model-based definition. Proven experience working with Creo 3D CAD software, PDMLink Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), GD&T, and tolerance stack up analysis software.
Project Leadership
Advanced knowledge of and demonstrated experience in all aspects of project management work, including developing project plans, work breakdown structures, and work packages; managing scope, schedule, budget, and baselines; and documenting baseline reports and change control actions.
Product Data Management
High-level knowledge of Product Data Management systems; analyzing data and generating reports to support product-related decision making.
Standards Expertise
Expert level knowledge in the application of ASME Y14 standards knowledge, with emphasis on Y14.5 - 2009 and Y14.41 MBD. Expert experience with developing and interpreting 3D CAD models standards, practices, and procedures used in the Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE) within LANL and industry for conveying design intent internally and to other national laboratories and production plants. Extensive knowledge of hardware fabrication, inspection, and assembly processes. Experience with weapon-system configuration management workflows for authorization, review, release, and distribution of models, drawings, specifications, and related product definition.
Consultative experience
Experience in developing and nurturing effective high-level internal and/or external customer relationships.
Communication and Teamwork
Proven ability to successfully plan, organize, lead, and monitor a wide variety of team efforts to completion. Demonstrated effective and efficient written and verbal communication skills. Record of developing constructive, cooperative working relationships, and supporting teams consisting of engineers, physicists, scientists, technologists, and technicians in the development of products.
Education/Experience: Position requires a bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 12 years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
- Significant experience in draft/design work in both weapons and non-weapons arenas.
- Significant experience in the development and implementation of organizational design and/or drafting standards.
- Demonstrated ability to work on multiple tasks for a variety of customers to ensure product definition meets requirements and design intent. Proven experience leading reviews for design, manufacture, assembly, and tests.
- Leadership Experience: Experience leading and guiding others through design and modeling techniques. Proven ability to mentor other checkers and design staff in mechanical design and modeling. Proven skills in guiding teams consisting of staff from diverse backgrounds through design iterations to address potential engineering defects, as well as suggesting methods of improvement, per relevant standards and best practices.
- Active Q clearance
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
