The Plutonium Facilities Engineering - Auxiliary Systems (PFE-AUX) facility engineering group at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is seeking an Engineering Technologist to support Plutonium Facility Engineering and TA-55 Maintenance and Site Services. Resolves complex technical challenges in support of facilities, maintenance, and operations. Independently plans and executes high impact assignments, exercises sound judgment, and provides guidance to junior staff while collaborating across multidisciplinary teams. Leads the development, validation, auditing, and analysis of performance data, metrics, and reporting systems to ensure compliance with safety, quality, regulatory, budget, and schedule requirements. The engineer supports facility modifications, new structure and equipment development, demolition activities, installations, upgrades, and repairs. In addition, develop and implement maintenance policies, procedures, documentation systems, and records management processes, interpret governmental and Laboratory requirements, conduct program assessments, deliver training, and drive continuous process improvement. Plans and coordinates preparation of equipment and work specifications, bid evaluations, award recommendations, cost estimates, staffing assessments, forecasts, change orders, and other project control elements. Leads and coordinates engineering and maintenance efforts among specialty groups, clients, suppliers, contractors, and divisional stakeholders, and when delegated assumes formal leadership of project teams or subgroups. Ensuring safety and security are fully integrated into all activities and exercises stop work authority when necessary to protect personnel, facilities, and mission objectives.

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Expert knowledge of production facility engineering principles and technical responsibilities.
- Expert knowledge of work planning and control methods.
- Expert knowledge of production facility procedures, standards, guides, and quality assurance policies.
- Expert knowledge of DOE, NNSA, industry codes, standards, and/or regulatory requirements applicable to maintenance and engineering programs.
- Extensive experience developing and implementing performance assurance metrics and oversight strategies.
- Expert knowledge of policy and procedure development, implementation, and enforcement.
- Expert knowledge of document control, records management, and compliance systems.
- Expert knowledge of workplace hazards, safety practices, and environmental and legal requirements affecting engineering and maintenance management.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct research, evaluate alternatives, and recommend defensible solutions to complex maintenance and engineering challenges.
- Expert ability to communicate complex technical topics clearly to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
- Demonstrated ability in written and verbal communication, report preparation, and formal presentations.
- Proven ability to self-supervise and manage competing priorities effectively.
- Extensive knowledge of production facility business systems and maintenance management systems.

Work Environment: Work in a noisy environment, work near sources of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, work near machinery with moving parts, working overtime or an irregular schedule.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Work Schedule: This position requires working Friday through Monday (10 hours / day) upon completion of a "training period" Tuesday through Friday (10 hours / day). Employees may be eligible for shift differential pay when assigned by their manager. Shift/weekend assignments are at the discretion of the manager. This position may require 24/7 on-call coverage also at the discretion of the manager.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
