The Accelerator Operations & Technology Division is looking for a dedicated professional to join our management team as our Staff Operations Manager (SOM). This position will contribute to the success of our organization by managing day-to-day business operations and executing long-term business strategies. Some of the expected job duties include oversight of administrative and support staff at the group and division level as well as ensuring that the organization is operating efficiently while complying with applicable policies and practices of the Laboratory. This position supports administrative systems, budget development and monitoring, and providing guidance on staffing, and is key to logistical planning for the division as well as leading efforts for process improvement. Additionally, in the past, the AOT SOM has managed the multi-million-dollar LANSCE maintenance materials budget, including providing oversight of its development within the AOT groups. Finally, this position serves as a mentor to group leadership and administrative and support staff throughout the division.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Proven record of proactive and independent job execution.
- History of substantial experience with administrative management of business operations such as human resources, finance, organization support functions and infrastructure.
- Ability to function as a member of an executive management team, to work effectively with all levels of internal and external personnel, and to gain consensus, build teams, and resolve conflicts.
- Demonstrated success at managing teams to accomplish organizational goals.
- Experience supporting or contributing to program development and budget oversight.
- Experience heading up process improvements in administrative and/or functional areas of operation.
- Experience collecting and evaluating data to identify and address complex problems.
- Ability to direct the administration of assigned staff, including forecasting staffing requirements, directing assignments, assuring training and development, monitoring and evaluating performance, mentoring, and initiating personnel actions.
- Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a safe and secure work environment
Education: Position typically requires a bachelor's degree and a minimum five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience in managing programs and the development and execution oversight of multi-million-dollar budgets.
- Proficiency in multiple laboratory-wide business systems and computer software applications (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
- Advanced knowledge of Laboratory, DOE, and/or NNSA business, operational, and programmatic missions, goals, commitments, and critical issues.
- Advanced knowledge of Laboratory requirements for document and records management.
- Knowledge of Federal policies and procedures as they relate to legacy materials and equipment.
- Ability to exert influence with stakeholders and partners to achieve organizational objectives.
- Background in engineering and/or program management.

Work Environment:
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Where You Will Work
The Accelerator Operations and Technology (AOT) Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is the largest accelerator capability organization within LANL with over 200 employees. AOT is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and improvements to the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE) particle accelerator complex. The LANSCE accelerator provides 800-MeV protons used in five separate, but simultaneously operated user programs. Beam/user operations (24/7) run for roughly seven months of the year with the remaining five months reserved for maintenance and upgrades.
In addition to our responsibilities to the LANSCE programs, AOT also supports several large and small internal and external projects as well as doing fundamental research and development in the area of accelerator science, technology, and engineering.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
