Team Leader (Solutions Architect 3)

What You Will Do

Innovative Customer Experience Division (ICE) is seeking an energetic, highly technical, and customer-focused team leader for the ICE Field Services (ICE-FS) group. ICE-FS consists of approximately 95 professionals, technicians, contractors and students. The successful candidate will manage a team of 15 to 18 highly technical employees performing both classified and unclassified system administration of Microsoft Windows desktops, Mac desktops and Linux desktops for customers.

The selected candidate's primary responsibilities will include design and implementation of complex institutional and programmatic classified and unclassified computing environments, as well as first level manager duties. The selected candidate will also be responsible for the support of a complex multi-platform environment with Virtual Desktop Infrastructures (VDI and Citrix Provisioning diskless technology. In addition to the responsibility for ongoing development, design and implementation of major classified and unclassified systems, there will be additional responsibilities to negotiate and manage Service Level Agreements (SLAs), implement and support ICE best practices, utilize services and tools in order to promote standard desktop configurations and security compliant systems. Along with being the technical leader of the team, the first level manager duties will also include fulfilling performance management activities, mentoring direct reports, advancing professionalism, supporting technical growth, and providing excellent customer service. The selected candidate will also manage budget and associated deliverables by serving the steward of the team's finances, personnel, and property resources.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements
  • Expert knowledge of hardware and operating systems (Windows/Mac/Linux) including system architectures and network infrastructures (classified and unclassified)
  • Expert knowledge and demonstrated experience of desktop computing support, computing infrastructure design and implementation, network integration, and an understanding of Laboratory computing and network operations (classified and unclassified)
  • Expert knowledge of diskless technologies including both Virtual Desktop Infrastructure and Citrix Provisioning.
  • Expert knowledge and experience with supporting data acquisition systems in both the unclassified and classified networks.
  • Expert knowledge and demonstrated experience in system configuration management methodologies
  • Technical leadership experience with an emphasis on planning, employee development, performance management, team building, goal setting, problem solving, and conflict resolution
  • Demonstrated ability to work with all levels of management and cyber security personnel
  • Extensive experience with collaboration across organizational boundaries, and the ability to manage customer relationships in a positive and effective manner
  • Experience with vulnerability remediation and system patching and vulnerability remediation.
  • Must have organizational skills, time management skills and outstanding customer service

Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's degree and 8 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.


Desired Qualifications:

  • Active DOE L or Q clearance, or equivalent, transferable clearance.
  • Knowledge of IT governance frameworks such as ITIL, or COBIT.
  • Knowledge of the Information Architecture process and implementation of standards.
  • Knowledge of project management principles to set project scope, schedule, priorities, and deliverables.
  • Experience in critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
