What You Will Do
Project/work plan description: The successful candidate will join a team of analytical radiochemists supporting national security efforts in nuclear treaty monitoring, safeguards/nonproliferation, and nuclear forensics who perform elemental purification of trace levels of actinides in a clean laboratory setting. Purified actinides are prepared for analysis by high precision/high sensitivity isotope ratio mass spectrometry.
Duties will include:
• Learning anion exchange chromatography and performing column calibrations or separations
• Rotations through labware preparation/cleaning
• Maintaining stock supplies of labware and reagents in all labs; cleaning labware; learning about LANL purchasing and inventory
• Cleaning new resin and preparing resin check samples
• Analytical balance performance checks and control charting
• Daily hood air flow measurements
• Pipette calibrations
• Potential microscope work, for handling resin beads for TIMS source mounts

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. What You Need

- Basic understanding of chemical reactions; General Chemistry coursework with labs
- Understanding of molarity, molality, acid dilution/reagent preparation
- Basic understanding of anion exchange and/or extraction chromatography
- Basic understanding of mass spectrometry
- Understanding of the relationship between mass, half-life, and specific radioactivity of radionuclides
- Knowledge of how to use Microsoft Excel and Word (Python a plus or database knowledge is a plus)
Skills
