Work Configuration and Control Specialist (Operations Specialist 1/2) Nightshift/Weekend Dayshift

What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Operations Specialist 1 or 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

The Work Configuration and Control Specialist (WCCS) will support various TA-55 Facility Operations program (OPS2) groups. This may include both in-facility and database audits of the Lock Out Tag Out/Facility Placard and Transient Combustible programs, resolution of discrepancies identified during audits, walkdowns to support procedure review and development and support for training development. You will also be required to work with facility personnel in order to keep TA55 systems up to date for equipment status and control (e.g. database for caution tags, administrative locks, and LOTO hazardous energy locks/tags).

Operations Specialist 1 $59,200 - $91,600

Provides general direction, guidance, data analysis, and/or operational support to the TA-55 facility and/or organization in order to ensure the implementation and integration of operational and programmatic functions. Assists in routine facility or area walk-downs, procedure reviews, inspections, and/or evaluations to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the facility and/or organization. Assists in performing periodic reviews and assessments to ensure of the facility and/or organization systems are operating properly and are being maintained within required limits. Assists in preliminary inquiries and information gathering into abnormal facility events and occurrences and the development, implementation and documentation of corrective actions for identified systems and equipment deficiencies and failures.

Operations Specialist 2 $78,700 - $125,100

In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, an OS2 is expected to perform the following. Prepares, reviews and issues Administrative and Lock Out Tag Out locks and documentation. Support transient combustible walkdowns with Area Controllers. Assists in developing training for facility personnel. Performs routine facility or area walk-downs, procedure reviews, inspections, and/or evaluations to ensure the safe and efficient operations of the facility and/or organization. Functions in an array of contingency coordinator roles in support of operations including, but not limited to, emergency/fire/security, environmental/regulatory compliance, and/or nuclear material accountability.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Conduct of Operations: Experience working within a formal Conduct of Operations framework (DOE or equivalent).

Facility Operations: Knowledge of and experience with working in a nuclear facility.

Lockout/Tagout: Experience of Lock Out Tag Out program's purpose and processes.

Transient Combustibles: Familiarity of transient combustible program's purpose and processes.

Communication: Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication.

Additional Job Requirements for Operations Specialist 2:

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:

Safety: Demonstrated knowledge mitigating work hazards, implementing safety practices, and understanding operating configuration. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

Customer Service: Customer service, organizational skills, and ability to interact with all levels of personnel internal and external to the Laboratory.

Presenting Reports: Ability in preparing and presenting facility operations reports; collecting and organizing data and maintaining auditable records.

Work Ethic: Demonstrated ability to work with little supervision.

Operations Specialist 1 Education Required: Position requires an Associate's and 2 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Operations Specialist 2 Education Required: Position requires an Associate's Degree and 4 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.


Desired Qualifications:


  • Knowledge of TA55 processes and systems

Essential Job Functions (can perform with or without reasonable accommodation): Climbing Stairs, Climbing Ladders, and Lifting 20-30 Pounds.

Work Environment: This position will fill a role as part of a 24/7 schedule, which will involve working shift/weekend schedules. Employees may be eligible for shift differential pay when assigned by their manager. Shift/weekend assignments are at the discretion of the manager.

Work Schedule:

Position 1: Night shift (Tuesday - Friday 1700-0330)

Position 2: Weekend Day shift (Friday - Monday 0600-1630).

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level).
