What You Will Do

The Controller Division is seeking to hire a highly motivated, energetic, and customer-focused Accountant 2 to support the CNTL-Accounting and Financial Reporting (CNTL-AFR) Group. The selected candidate will report to the CNTL-AFR General Accounting Team Leader and will provide support for the STARS Team. The STARS Team is responsible for the financial reporting of the Laboratory to DOE monthly. The accountant 2 will assist other STARS Team members in the preparation of these reports. The selected candidate will train on the various job functions within the STARS Team including the monthly closing of the general ledger, creating adjusting journal entries, preparation of the STARS file, and submission of reports to DOE, as well as other duties as needed. Must be reliable and available to work outside a regular schedule during month end and year end closing to meet fiscal deadlines.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Accounting Experience
Working knowledge of accounting and financial concepts and principles, ability to interpret and apply GAAP and CAS, ability to develop and interpret financial policies and procedures, knowledge of governmental financial accounting in accordance with federal laws governing accounting procedures and systems.

Communication/Teamwork/Organization
Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to independently establish priorities, manage projects, and execute complex business and financial assignments.

Problem Solving/Data Analysis
Knowledge and experience researching, gathering, analyzing data, summarizing results, resolving problems and issues both independently and as a team member.

Technology
Demonstrated proficient use of computer software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.).

Education/Experience

Position requires a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field and 5 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.




Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience working with large data sets, demonstrating the ability to analyze data and provide actionable analysis for decision making
  • Working knowledge of LANL financial data and reports
  • MBA/Master's Degree in accounting from an accredited college or university
  • Certified Public Accountant

Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.




Position commitment: Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
