The Associate Laboratory Directorate for Physical Sciences (ALDPS) is seeking Post-Bachelor Students in a variety of Physical Sciences disciplines that includes engineering, physics, materials science, chemistry, robotics, computer science, and more.

Examples of projects in ALDPS include, but are not limited to:
  • Charged particle acceleration through controlled utilization of electromagnetic fields;
  • Supporting National Security missions involving radiographic imaging, remote measurements of electromagnetic signatures, sources of directed energy (for probes and defeat), and development of new capabilities such as radiation therapy and irradiation/sterilization of materials;
  • Discovering materials and exploring their properties and developing new characterization tools and practical applications of materials;
  • Deliver core materials science, technology, and hardware essential to ensure weapons materials performance;
  • Analysis of data acquired using the ChemCam instrument currently deployed on the NASA Curiosity rover;
  • Modeling neutron scattering and yield within systems involving extreme temperature and pressure conditions;
  • Design, execute, and analyze experiments that challenge, improve, and validate our understanding of fundamental physics;
  • Manufacturing science related to nuclear weapons, nuclear fuels, ferrous alloys, refractory metals, and a variety of non-metallic materials;

This job posting will be used to identify Post-Bachelor Student candidates and match them to open student positions across the Physical Sciences Directorate at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). Selected candidates may be placed into the following Divisions:

  • AOT | Accelerator Operations and Technology Division
  • LANSCE-FO | Los Alamos Neutron Science Center Facility Operations
  • MPA | Materials Physics and Applications Division
  • MST | Materials Science and Technology Division
  • P-Division | Physics Division
  • Sigma | Manufacturing Science Division


What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Physical Sciences related discipline, from an accredited institution with a Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 within the last three years.

Student selected for Post-Bachelor Student positions in ALDPS are most competitive when they possess the following knowledge and skills:

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
