This position will be filled at either the Computing Systems Tec 4 / Computing Systems Tec 5 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Innovative Customer Experience division is seeking an energetic and customer-focused Computing Systems Tec 4/5 for the ICE Field Services (ICE-FS) group. ICE-FS consists of approximately 90 professionals, technicians, and students. ICE division is responsible for the desktop support for computing environments at the Laboratory. The division is organized around field support groups that are focused on supporting unclassified and classified programmatic and mission support needs, and a technical services group that provides the enterprise level configuration management services for these computing environments. The successful candidate will be providing dedicated desktop support services to an assigned customer base in various locations across the laboratory. The successful candidate will provide day-to-day technical support services for ICE-FS customers in a heterogeneous computing environment.
Computing Systems Tec 4 (CST-4) ($69,500 - $110,300)
The successful candidate will perform a full spectrum of system administration duties, including but not limited to:
- Installing, configuring, and troubleshooting desktop, workstations, and network issues in a heterogeneous environment
- Recommending hardware and software solutions, including new acquisitions and upgrades
- Interacting with senior internal and external personnel
- Working on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors
- Providing technical solutions to complex problems
- Providing assistance and knowledge to peers
- Mentoring and train fellow team members in basic Windows system administration
Computing Systems Tec 5 (CST-5) ($76,900 - $122,200)
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, the Computing Systems Tec 5 will be required to:
- Installing, configuring, and troubleshooting desktop, workstations, servers, and network issues in a heterogeneous environment
- Assisting and developing skillset in system administration of Windows server 2016 and Windows server 2019 infrastructure, including troubleshooting, managing backup and recovery
- Proactively managing systems and servers utilizing Active Directory
- Supporting customers primarily in the classified environment
- Testing and evaluating commercial and Laboratory developed software for quality control and proper operation
- Enforcing strict password policies, data integrity, and file system security for the desktop environment.
- Recommending hardware and software solutions, including new acquisitions, and upgrades
- Communicating highly technical information to both technical and nontechnical personnel
- Managing projects to fulfill customer technical needs
- Proactively resolve vulnerabilities for Windows operating systems
- Practicing Information Architecture processes and standards
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Experience administering, troubleshooting, and resolving operating system, hardware, and application issues on Microsoft Windows desktops
- Experience utilizing a work ticket management system to distribute work, gather metrics, and efficiently respond to customer requests
- Experience utilizing automated installation and configuration management tools
- Demonstrated excellent customer service, exceptional work ethic and time management
- Extensive experience interacting with customers and peers in a professional and responsive manner
Additional Job Requirements for Computing Systems Tec 5:
In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:
- Experience installing, configuring, and managing servers (to include Active Directory)
- Experience leading a technical project or systems upgrade
- Knowledge of VDI and administering virtual environments and related hardware
- Experience with system patching and vulnerability remediation
- Experience testing, repairing, and evaluating Information Architecture (IA) standard software, including operating system and IA standard hardware
Education/Experience at Computing Systems Tec 4 level: Position requires a High School diploma or equivalency and 4-6 years directly related experience; or; an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. Technical Institute graduation or AA degree may be preferred.
Education/Experience at Computing Systems Tec 5 level: Position requires a High School diploma or equivalency and 6 years directly related experience; or; an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
At this level, additional training, certification, and/or education may be expected, including associate's degrees and graduation from technical institutions.
Desired Qualifications:
- Active DOE L or Q clearance, or equivalent, transferable clearance
- Experience mentoring IT team members
- Applicable vendor certification (Microsoft, VMware, NetApp, CompTIA A+, CCNA)
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
