Join Our World-Class Engineering Team at Los Alamos National Laboratory!
Are you ready to put your technical expertise to work in a dynamic environment where your contributions directly impact national security? Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is seeking a talented and driven Designer/Drafter to join our innovative Engineering Services (ES) team. This is an exciting opportunity to apply your knowledge in Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) technology and Computer-Aided Design (CAD), while working on projects that make a real difference.
At LANL, we pride ourselves on fostering a collaborative, problem-solving culture where diverse ideas thrive. You'll be working in a multidisciplinary team to help maintain and upgrade our cutting-edge facilities spread over 40 square miles of the laboratory campus.
Your primary responsibility will be conducting Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) scans inside existing buildings and translating those findings into precise CAD drawings that meet LANL's high standards. This is not just about creating drawings-it's about contributing to vital infrastructure projects that are crucial to national security. You'll work closely with engineers, designers, and other stakeholders to ensure the accuracy and quality of technical documents that support operations and maintenance teams across the laboratory. Other key responsibilities include:
- Lead GPR Investigations: Perform field scans of reinforced concrete structures within existing buildings, and provide clear and accurate results
- CAD Mastery: Utilize your skills in AutoCAD to create models, civil design layouts, and engineering concepts. You will be responsible for preparing technical baseline drawings that meet LANL CAD Standards
- Collaboration & Innovation: Engage with clients, engineers, and fellow designers to develop creative, cost-effective solutions
- Field Work: Conduct walk-downs and data collection of LANL's utility systems and facilities, ensuring that technical baseline documentation remains up-to-date
- Technical Leadership: Lead GPR field briefings, perform quality assurance checks, and archive GPR data in LANL's digital systems
You'll also have the opportunity to work on minor design packages and take part in complex problem-solving that requires creativity and independence. In this role, your work will have a tangible impact on both immediate projects and the laboratory's long-term operations.
At Los Alamos National Laboratory, you'll have the unique opportunity to work on some of the most cutting-edge engineering projects in the world. We're committed to nurturing a work environment where leadership, quality, and safety are the top priorities. We believe in empowering our team to make impactful decisions and provide opportunities for professional growth. Here you will be more than just an employee - you'll be a critical part of a mission that matters. If you're excited to take on challenges, thrive in a collaborative environment, and want to contribute to something bigger, we encourage you to apply today.
Join us at LANL and make your mark in a career that truly makes a difference.
