Health Physicist 1/2

What You Will Do

The Health Physics Analysis Laboratories (HPAL) program analyzes a variety of samples for the presence of radioactive materials in support of Los Alamos National Laboratory's Nuclear Security Mission. The HPAL program is responsible for non-destructive measurements of samples collected and criticality accident dosimetry measurements and calculations in support of the LANL Radiation Protection Program. The HPAL program typically analyzes over 200,000 samples per year. You will work with the HPAL program to provide quality, defensible, HPAL services to the Laboratory. Your responsibilities will include analyses of samples, review of analyses results, investigating and resolving issues and anomalous results, conducting studies and preparing reports on technical issues, developing procedures and technical basis documents, taking an active role in development and implementation of program improvements.

This position will be filled at either the Health Physicist 1 or 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Health Physicist 1, $92,300 - $151,000

The position requires entry-level knowledge of the theory and concepts associated with radiation detection and measurements. The candidate will be responsible for resolving a wide range of problems and evaluation of analytical results. This will include: review of analytical results; quality control activities; method development; program documentation (procedures and technical basis documents); and setup, testing, calibration, and maintenance of analytical equipment. The candidate will assist in training and supervision of HPAL technicians. Specific duties will be assigned based on the qualifications and training of the selected candidate.

Health Physicist 2, $101,700 - $168,200

In addition to what was outlined the Health Physicist 1 level, at this level the position requires demonstrated understanding and experience in ionizing radiation detection, instrumentation principles, and process development.
