What You Will Do

This position is within Facilities and Operations, Readiness and Training, Training Group (RT-TR). This mid-level position is critical to the mission of the RT-TR in support of the Los Alamos National Laboratory mission. The selected candidate will work under direction in the maintenance of an established training and qualification program and develop new training products based on analysis performed. RT-TR provides a diverse line of training support at the Laboratory; a significant focus for this position is the formal qualification of all engineers, workers and support staff in performing work at LANL. This position provides deployed services to customer organizations across the site in both nuclear and non-nuclear operations.


What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Knowledge and Expertise: Strong understanding of the Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) and tools used in the development and implementation of formal training programs. Familiarity with training drivers/requirements for nuclear facilities and/or development in a compliance based environment.

Performance: Experience evaluating requirements, performing analysis, developing individual training products, implementing training and assisting with evaluation methods. Experience utilizing a learning management system to effectively implement training programs. Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a complex, fast-paced work environment.

Accountability: Experience working with confidential or proprietary information, classified documents or sensitive information, including PII training records. Sound understanding of safety and security requirements to individual responsibility and as applicable to training activities.

Communication & Customer Service: Demonstrated skill with interpersonal, written and verbal communication. Ability to transfer knowledge effectively to both technical and non-technical personnel. Proven skill set using excellent communication to provide high-level customer service in a largely teleworking environment.

Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a related field and 4 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

DOE O 426.2 Minimum Requirements: Requires a BA Degree and 1 year of job-related experience. Instructional Analysts/Developers should have a baccalaureate degree in Training or Education. The Instructional Analyst/Developer must have courses in education or training that focus on instructional analysis, design, development, delivery, and testing, as well as evaluation of training programs, if not included in the baccalaureate course material.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Qualified to the Laboratory's Training Staff Qualification Program (TSQP).
  • Familiar with DOE O 426.2A.
  • Familiar with the Laboratory's P781 series documents.
  • Experience in nuclear facility-related subject matter or highly regulated training environment.
  • DOE Q-clearance is highly desired.

Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular Position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
