The Advanced Sources and Detectors Project at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is seeking a highly motivated individual with experience in science, engineering, or project management to fill the role of Control Account Manager (CAM). The CAM will be responsible for managing cost, schedule, and technical performance for specific work areas within a large capital project supporting physics experiments for stockpile stewardship. This role involves leading a cross-functional project team to achieve objectives within budget and on time, while ensuring safety and compliance. The position reports directly to the Project Manager overseeing the entire project.
Key Responsibilities/Duties/Knowledge
Technical Management:
- Manage large projects ($30-100M TPC). Responsible for all aspects of the project over the entire lifecycle (initiation, planning, executing, monitoring & controlling, and closing).
- The CAM is responsible for leading a cross-functional IPT, which includes members with diverse skills and expertise from different departments or specialties. Required to provide day-to-day oversight to ensure execution of project deliverables.
- Utilize demonstrated knowledge of construction, engineering, procurement, and other project-related activities to ensure successful project execution.
- Responsible for managing, coordinating and administering major project efforts that may involve several Laboratory organizations and vendors.
- Establish and maintain strong and effective customer, peer, and team relations.
Earned Value Management System (EVMS) Practitioner:
- Responsible for planning, budgeting, managing and controlling costs and schedule performance for a project or sub-project and serve as a point of contact for project controls, including account scope, schedule, budget and technical performance.
- As a CAM, responsible for reviewing variances in schedule or cost, identifying their causes, and creating effective corrective action plans; also, required to present project performance plans, updates, and issues to federal sponsors.
- Manage Control Accounts within large project that involves a high-level of rigor to fulfill requirements defined in 413.3B.
- Operate EVMS tools (P-6, Cobra, etc.) and processes, including change control, budget estimation, and reporting.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Execution of Project Deliverables: proven track record of executing project deliverables on time and within scope, ensuring that all project objectives and milestones are met according to plan.
- Leading Teams: demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams, ensuring collaboration and cohesion among members with diverse skills to achieve project objectives effectively.
- Earned Value Management: understanding of EVMS principles, applying them to monitor project performance, control costs, and schedule, and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Experience Providing Routine Reporting: skilled in preparing and delivering routine project management reports, providing clear status updates, trend analyses, and issue resolutions to stakeholders, including federal sponsors.
- The ability to become proficient in Primavera P6 and Cobra.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a Q clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
Education and Experience:
Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Scientific discipline from an accredited institution and 8 years experience in one of the following functions: engineering, procurement or construction leading to a thorough understanding of the knowledge described above; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
- Basic Knowledge of Accelerator Systems: fundamental understanding of accelerator systems, enabling effective coordination and communication with technical teams to ensure that project requirements align with system capabilities and standards.
- Mentoring: experience mentoring peers and junior staff in project controls and management, including budgeting, cost estimating, cost control, and scheduling.
Work Environment:
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
