The Information Sciences and Modeling group (A-1) is looking for outstanding candidates in the field of computer science to support programing and software development for quantum computers. The candidate is expected to work in an interdisciplinary and collaborative research environment. A successful candidate is expected to: develop software frameworks for quantum computers; develop implementations of quantum algorithms; conduct experiments on quantum computing hardware; and contribute to technical reports for government agencies and peer reviewed journals. Previous experience with quantum computing is desired but not required for this position.
This position is part of LANL's Advanced Network Science Initiative (ANSI), which is an interdisciplinary team comprised of physicists, engineers, mathematicians, statisticians, and computer scientists. Our typical customers include the Department of Energy, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Defense, and other national laboratories. What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Experience in software development in a ubiquitous language (e.g., Python, C++, Java, ...)
- Experience with modern open-source software development methods (e.g., Git, GitHub, unit tests, continuous integration)
- Experience working in small teams, mentoring, and/or writing proposals.
- Demonstrate ability to work effectively in a collaborative and multi-disciplinary environment.
- Demonstrate excellent oral and written skills.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience implementing scientific software and/or numerical methods
- Experience with the Julia programming language
- Experience with cluster computing (e.g., SLURM, Sun Grid Engine, ...)
- Familiarity with Quantum Information Science (especially, mathematics, algorithms, and implementations)
- Familiarity with Quantum Computing Software packages (e.g., Qiskit, Cirq, Q#, ...)
- Familiarity with Quantum Resource Estimation
- Ability to obtain a DOE Q and SCI security clearances, which generally requires U.S. citizenship
