Windows Server Administrator (Computing Systems Professional 3/4)

What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Computer Systems Professional 3/4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Computer Systems Professional 3 ($101,700-$168,200)

As a Computing Systems Professional 3, you will use your customer service skills while building and administering Microsoft Windows Servers. Your duties will include tasks such as server operating system maintenance and troubleshooting, creating and executing PowerShell scripts for automated tasks, using a support ticket system (ServiceNow), reviewing design and implementing services related to Windows Servers and Citrix desktop administration. You will use your experience to administer Windows servers with minimal supervision. You will also participate in the development of customer solutions for the future and assist with architectural solutions for ISD-IS and it's customers.

Computer Systems Professional 4 ($112,000- $186,200)

In addition to the lower level duties, at this level, you will engage your expert-level skills to serve as a technical leader. You will use your advanced experience to administer Windows servers with minimal supervision.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Experience with hardware and operating system management, including system architectures, network infrastructures, and client server principles.
  • Experience with IIS technologies, including deployment and maintenance.
  • Experience working professionally with customers and other stakeholders, including the ability to translate technical ideas into non-technical language for a variety of audiences.
  • Experience with Microsoft Active Directory and DNS tools (or similar products).
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Windows Servers.
  • Experience with engaging vendor support for design, development, and troubleshooting with 3rd party vendors.

Additional Job Requirements for Computer Systems Professional 4:

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:
  • Expert-level experience with hardware and operating system management, including system architectures, network infrastructures, and client server principles.
  • Knowledge of project management technologies, such as ServiceNow or Jira.
  • Expert-level experience with IIS technologies including IIS deployment and maintenance.
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Active Directory and DNS tools (or similar products).

Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 8 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, applicable advanced vendor and/or professional certification is desirable.

Education/Experience at higher level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 12 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, advanced vendor and/or professional certifications are highly desirable and post graduate course work may be expected.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience installing certificates using the OLT PKI Certificate Tool or equivalent product.
  • Experience creating Windows PowerShell scripts.
  • Experience installing and maintaining TomCat.
  • Experience configuring and assisting database administrators with Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows Server 2019 or 2022.
  • Microsoft certifications in the area of systems administration.
  • Active DOE "Q" Clearance

Work Environment:

Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Note to Applicants:
  • Applicant must be willing to work a rotating on-call schedule.
  • This position requires at least 50% of the week working onsite and the remainder of the week working from home.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Incentive Compensation Program: At the Level 4, this position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
