What You Will Do

Come join one of the world's most innovative R&D facilities to help us tackle tomorrow's national security challenges. The Information Sciences Group (CCS-3) at Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking technical experts in the research and development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) / Machine Learning (ML) and Uncertainty Quantification (UQ) algorithms with interest in building applications for the end-to-end analysis of multi-source heterogeneous data sets that results in interpretable and defensible insights to support decision making. Data and information sources can include signals data, imagery, acoustic, seismic, radar, etc. in addition to contextual information. The successful applicant will be an established research scientist with expertise in algorithmic development for AI/ML and/or UQ.

This position will be filled at either the Scientist 2 or 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Scientist 2 ($101,700 - $168,200):

The successful candidate will participate in research and development activities to develop novel AI/ML and UQ techniques and apply those techniques to the analysis and inference over multi-source heterogeneous data sets. Code development will be a core activity of the position, as will writing research papers, publishing in high-quality venues, and delivering in a programmatic environment under time constraints.

Scientist 3 ($122,300 - $206,300):

In addition to the responsibilities outlined at the Scientist 2 level, at this level the successful candidate will oversee research activities and lead small teams as needed. Other responsibilities include writing research proposals, meeting with program sponsors on a regular basis, steering research activities appropriately to ensure success, and building teams to pursue applied R&D efforts.
