This position will be filled at either the Operations Support Specialist 1/ 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
The Area Control Operations Team (TA55-OPS4-OIC) is seeking motivated candidates to fill multiple Operations Support Specialist 1/ 2 positions to support our 24/7 mission at TA-55. This position requires rotating shift work to meet the needs of the national security missions at TA-55. ACO is responsible for supporting resource conflict resolution (i.e. allocating scarce resources such as radiological control technicians (RCTs) or the use of specific rooms in PF-4) across multiple programs with independent milestones and drivers. The team works with programs and line organizations to better understand programmatic priorities, to identify and mitigate potential conflicts, and to track the daily status of all work conducted within the Protected Area (PA) at TA-55. Area controllers also provide support to the release of the facility and shift exchange daily. The team serves as the key point of contact for ensuring lab rooms within PF-4 are compliant with transient combustible and housekeeping standards. The ACs also ensure work activities occur on time and within the scope of the floor schedule to mitigate schedule deviations, as well as to support logging and tracking issues within PF-4.
Operations Support Specialist 1 $60,500 - $93,600
Duties of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assists in the day-to-day execution of floor schedule at TA-55, specifically within PF-4, PF-5, and other nuclear areas as needed.
- Assists production with the integration and coordination of various support resources.
- Attendance at daily scheduling meetings for coordination and release of work.
- Support quality checks on schedules and log issues as needed.
- Support incident and general issues management investigations and reporting.
- Communicate and resolve housekeeping and transient combustible program violations through coordination with the TA-55 resident groups.
- Ensure floor work performed is in accordance with the scheduling protocols, execution procedures, and production priorities established by the ALDWP leadership team.
- Support communication between work owning organizations, area controllers, and OIC management.
- Ensure compliance with safety/security requirements and take the necessary steps to stop work if continuing a job is unsafe or compromises security.
Operations Support Specialist 2 $72,800 - $115,400
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level the selected candidates will facilitate safe, compliant and efficient execution of work at TA-55
- Support communication between work organizations, area controllers, work execution managers and TA55-OPS-OIC-management.
- Attendance at daily shift briefs for coordination and release of work.

Additional Job Requirements for Operations Support Specialist 2:
In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:
- Intermediate knowledge of facility operations, including familiarity with the following: Integrated Safety, Formality of Operations/Conduct of Operations, Facility Availability, Scheduling and Work Week Management, Safety Basis, Integrated Work Management, and Continuous Process Improvement.
- Intermediate knowledge and demonstrated proficiency with typical business and project management software, computer hardware.
- Demonstrated skills in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting facility operations and operational quality assurance.
- Demonstrated attention to detail including strong organizational skills, analytical thinking, observational skills and problem solving skills. Proven ability to multi-task and adjust to the workings of a dynamic team environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated advanced skills networking effectively with stakeholders and key contacts outside own area of expertise, both internal and external to the organization.
- Exceptional customer service, organizational skills, and ability to interact with all levels of personnel internal and external to the organization.
Education/Experience at Level 1: Position requires an Associates Degree in a relevant field and two years of relevant experience or , an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Education/Experience at Level 2: Position requires a Associate's Degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution and 4 years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
DOE Order 426.2A: Requires a High School Diploma.

Work Schedule: This position may require 24/7 COVERAGE, which could involve working a REVOLVING SHIFT/WEEKEND schedule. Employees maybe eligible for shift differential pay when assigned by their manager. Shift/weekend assignments are at the discretion of the manager.

Work Location: The work location for this position is fully onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
