What You Will Do

The Plutonium Supply and Disposition Division within the Weapons Production Directorate at Los Alamos National Laboratory (TRIAD) is looking for an exceptional Operations Support Specialist 1/2 to join the MR&R Group (PSD-4). In this role, you will execute requirements for material throughput within production line and according to a master production schedule to meet programmatic demand. Applies general and working knowledge of manufacturing processes and material throughput requirements in special nuclear material production. Executes resource-scheduling functions and creation of weekly production plans. Performs manufacturing resource planning processes according to authorized boundary conditions. Assists shop floor scheduling, status management processes and agencies in support of coordination of scheduling. Works with operational manufacturing, nuclear control and accountability, Central Characterization Program, and Acceptable Knowledge program Nuclear Process Infrastructure personnel to integrate real-time scheduling issues and manage of work control of material handling streams. Maintains control of short-range manufacturing schedules. Executes work such that quality and data gathering requirements are met.

Operations Support Specialist 1 ($60,500-$93,600)

  • Operational Data & Reporting Support
  • Produce recurring operational reports and visual summaries for team and management review.
  • Generate charts, graphs, and structured data outputs that translate operational data into clear and usable formats.
  • Maintain standardized reporting templates and recurring deliverables.
  • Support development and maintenance of dashboards for project tracking, qualifications, and scope-of-work execution.
  • Update and validate dashboard data in Smartsheet and other approved systems.
  • Respond to routine data calls and reporting requests.
  • Perform basic trend analysis and descriptive data summaries.
  • Conduct data integrity checks and maintain version control of reports and datasets.
  • Assist with documentation of reporting procedures and data definitions.
  • PSD-4 Training Matrix Administration
  • Compile and maintain the PSD-4 qualification and training matrix.
  • Collect and reconcile training records from Smartsheet and other approved systems.
  • Track qualification currency, required certifications, and training gaps.
  • Notify supervisors of upcoming expirations or incomplete requirements.
  • Generate recurring qualification status summaries.
  • Maintain documentation supporting audit readiness.
  • Scheduling & Resource Tracking
  • Maintain operational schedules and task trackers in Smartsheet.
  • Update task status based on input from project leads and operations personnel.
  • Track due dates, dependencies, and task completion percentages.
  • Maintain personnel assignment and workload tracking.
  • Identify schedule conflicts and elevate issues to supervision.
  • Provide summary schedule reports for management review.


Operations Support Specialist 2 ($72,800-$115,400)

In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, as an OSS 2 you will be working with other operational support specialists to perform the above in addition to:

  • Advanced Operational Data & Dashboard Development
  • Design and develop interactive dashboards and automated reporting solutions using Smartsheet and other approved systems.
  • Integrate multiple operational data inputs into consolidated reporting views.
  • Develop standardized reporting frameworks for projects, qualifications, scope execution, and resource utilization.
  • Perform advanced trend analysis and data interpretation to support management decisions.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis of schedule delays, resource constraints, or reporting discrepancies.
  • Lead documentation of dashboard specifications and reporting methodologies.
  • Train end users on dashboard interpretation and reporting tools.
  • Ensure reporting processes align with Laboratory data governance requirements.
  • PSD-4 Training Matrix Oversight & Workforce Readiness
  • Oversee the accuracy and completeness of the PSD-4 training matrix.
  • Conduct periodic compliance reviews and workforce readiness assessments.
  • Perform qualification gap analysis and develop readiness summaries for leadership.
  • Coordinate with line management to address training deficiencies.
  • Ensure documentation supports internal and external audit requirements.
  • P-6 Scheduling & Complex Scope Integration
  • Be the lead point of contact for all team schedules for PSD-4.
  • Support integration of scope activities into Clear Demand Signal.
  • Maintain alignment of milestone commitments and critical path activities by interacting with MR&R Program Office CAMs.
  • Update schedules based on real-time operational execution data.
  • Coordinate with PCE for cross-functional sequencing of operational tasks including planning daily activities, reschedules, and late ads.
  • Point of Contact for PCE's and attend all Plan of Day meetings to Identify schedule risks, resource constraints, and execution bottlenecks to deconflict all work across TA-55.
  • Perform schedule scenario modeling and contingency planning.
  • Support forecasting of staffing and resource needs.
  • Prepare executive-level schedule status reports and briefings.
  • Facilitate coordination meetings and track action item closure.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate in a team environment to effectively execute programmatic goals.
  • Entry-level knowledge of organizational practices and process-improvement methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma, Human Performance Initiative, 5S and the ability to identify and apply similar initiatives.
  • Ability to follow and inform improvements in procedures, policies, and processes.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office suite and database software.
  • Ability to obtain Glovebox Operator and Fissile Material Handler qualifications.
  • Demonstrated experience developing data analysis and assessment plans, developing a data management plan, developing metrics and key performance indicators.
  • Demonstrated experience in interacting with customers in a customer service-related setting.
  • Demonstrated expert skills with MS Office suite and database software.
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.


Education/Experience: Position requires a Associate's Degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution and 4 years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

DOE Order 426.2: Requires a High School Diploma.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Clearance & HRP: Active DOE Q Clearance and current HRP certification highly desired.
  • Time Management: Advanced time management skills as demonstrated by the ability to work on multiple projects with varying priorities and deadlines.

Work Schedule: This position may require 24/7 coverage, which could involve working a shift/weekend schedule. Employees may be eligible for the shift differential pay when assigned by their manager. Shift/weekend assignments are at the discretion of the manager.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). The selected applicants will be subject to a federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matters. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11.
