Do you thrive on uncovering what happened, why it happened, and how to prevent recurrence? We're looking for a Contractor Assurance Specialist (CAS 1/2) within Production Assurance (PA-3) to support the coordination and facilitation of assurance assessments across production operations.

Contract Assurance Specialist 1/2

As part of the Assurance Performance & Governance (PA-3) organization, you will be responsible for coordinating and facilitating assurance assessments that evaluate organizational performance and compliance with DOE, NNSA, and Laboratory requirements. You will serve as a key liaison between assessors, line organizations, and Laboratory management, ensuring that assessments are properly planned, scheduled, supported, and documented. Serve as the primary interface and responsible point of contact for large, complex multidisciplinary project team(s) in the planning, negotiations, integration, monitoring, reporting, and execution of project plans from initiation to completion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing and maintaining Integrated Assessment Schedule activities with stakeholders, ensuring alignment across organizations and compliance with requirements.
  • Coordinating assessment logistics, including scheduling, notifications, documentation, and closeout activities.
  • Facilitating communication between assessors and assessed organizations.
  • Tracking deliverables, milestones, and corrective action commitments to ensure timely completion.
  • Performing effectiveness reviews to verify that corrective actions resolve identified issues.
  • Conducting trend code analysis to support risk identification and mitigation strategies.
  • Preparing agendas, compiling supporting documentation, and ensuring compliance with assessment procedures.
  • Assisting with the development of reports, summaries, and presentations that communicate results to management and stakeholders.
  • Supporting continuous improvement of the assessment program through lessons learned, trending, and process enhancements.
  • Contributing to project work such as developing project plans, identifying and coordinating resources, and designing workflows to improve assessment execution and program efficiency.


What You Need

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience supporting or coordinating audits, assessments, or compliance activities.
  • Familiarity with DOE Orders (e.g., DOE O 232.2A, DOE O 414.1E), NAP-401.1A, ASME NQA-1, or related quality/assurance standards.
  • Knowledge of contractor assurance principles, issues management systems, or continuous improvement frameworks.
  • Proficiency with scheduling, tracking, and reporting tools.
  • Project Coordination: Demonstrated ability to organize and track complex activities, manage schedules, and ensure follow-through.
  • Communication & Facilitation: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to serve as a bridge between assessors, management, and staff. Excellent writing skills for preparing clear reports and summaries.
  • Attention to Detail: Proven ability to manage documentation, follow procedures, and maintain accuracy in fast-paced environments.
  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to identify risks, apply trend code analysis, and recommend improvements to assessment processes.
  • Project Management: Experience contributing to project planning, identifying resources, and developing workflows to achieve goals efficiently.
  • Teamwork: Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across organizations.


Contractor Assurance Specialist 1 Education/Experience: Position requires a bachelor's degree and 2 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Contractor Assurance Specialist 2 Education/Experience: Position requires a bachelor's degree and 5 years related experience in organizational-level performance-based management, quality, and/or a technical discipline related to area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience supporting NNSA production, weapons-related, or other mission-critical operations.
  • Experience evaluating corrective action effectiveness.
  • Knowledge of DOE/NNSA regulatory requirements, nuclear safety basis, conduct of operations, ES&H, or quality assurance frameworks.
  • Experience supporting interactions with federal oversight organizations.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Lean Six Sigma, CQE) or DC/RO qualification preferred.


Work Schedule: Mandatory 2-3 days onsite - Hybrid schedule.

This position may/will require 24/7 coverage, which could/will involve working a shift/weekend schedule. Employees may be eligible for the shift differential pay when assigned by their manager. Shift/weekend assignments are at the discretion of the manager.

Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and located in Los Alamos, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
