What You Will Do
The R&D Manager 3 serves as a Deputy to the Group Leader and assists in establishing a vision and path for the future of C-AAC. C-AAC maintains 4 Deputy Group Leader positions, with an emphasis in each of our 4 primary operating locations. The Deputy Group Leaders partner with the C-AAC group office staff to provide strong scientific and technical leadership as well as operational, financial and administrative management for the Group. These responsibilities include ensuring compliance with work authorization, radiation protection, nuclear materials safeguards, criticality safety, and safety basis requirements. Deputy Group Leaders support the Group Leader to provide leadership to the Group's multiple programmatic activities, and effectively champion C-AAC capabilities and personnel.
C-AAC is a recognized national asset and leader within the international nuclear community for in-depth technical capabilities and knowledge. The group provides expertise in chemical and radiochemical analysis of materials in which actinide elements, including plutonium and uranium, often comprise a significant portion of the sample. These analyses range from assay of the major and minor components to analysis of trace impurities - spanning more than seven orders of magnitude of analytic capability. C-AAC helps sustain the nation's nuclear security through core programmatic contributions to weapons, nonproliferation, and nuclear forensics programs.

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- DOE O 426.2 Requirements for a management position in a Hazard Category 2 nonreactor nuclear facility:
- Minimum of a BS degree.
- 4 Years of Nuclear Experience (Education or experience that is job related may be substituted on a case-by-case basis. The degree may fulfill 3 of the 4 years of nuclear experience on a one-for-one time basis.)
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience working in a nuclear facility combined with a background and record of achievement in the effective implementation of Conduct of Operations.
- Demonstrated ability to provide guidance and policy interpretation.
- Demonstrated record of identifying and responding to new funding opportunities, program development, and assembling effective project teams across disciplinary and organizational boundaries.
- Thorough knowledge of and proven ability in budget preparation and oversight.
- Demonstrated record of promoting teamwork, consensus building, mentoring, and motivating peers and subordinates including conflict resolution and in dealing with performance issues.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, and demonstrated ability to interact with all levels of line, operational, program management, and facility operations personnel.
- Ability to obtain DOE Q clearance, which usually requires US citizenship.

Desired Qualifications:
- Thorough knowledge of and experience implementing Laboratory policies, procedures, and systems.
- Strong record of technical excellence and achievement as demonstrated through publications, reports, and presentations at national and international meetings.
- Understanding and knowledge of analytical/radioanalytical chemistry for nuclear and radioactive materials
- Thorough knowledge of DOE programmatic needs in plutonium pit production, threat reduction, material safeguards, and nuclear forensics.
- Knowledge of LANL and DOE Program Offices.
- Demonstrated experience managing Nuclear Materials workers (FMH, ORS, ORM HRP etc.)
- Active DOE Q clearance
