What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Operatons Specialist 1 or Operation Specialist 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Detonator Production (DP) Division is the premier Production Agency (PA) assigned to produce WR (War Reserve) detonators for the Nation's nuclear stockpile security mission. The Division is part of LANL's Weapons Production Directorate. DP is comprised of a team of motivated, highly skilled technical and operational support staff working in an integrated format. The organization is centered on high-rigor manufacturing operations to produce precision, safe and reliable WR products. DP partners closely with customers and stakeholders such as NNSA (National Nuclear Security Administration), Design Agencies (LANL, Sandia, and Livermore), and LANL program management orgs to deliver on challenging National security objectives. DP upholds vigorous teamwork, personal integrity, respectful workplace, and continuous improvement in operations, technical excellence, safety and security.

Detonator Production (DP) is seeking a highly qualified candidate to be considered for the Division Safety Officer position. This position reports to the DP Division Office (DO); providing safety leadership to a Division comprised of 6 groups consisting of about 200 employees, ensuring timely and successful mission deliverables for the Nation's stockpile.

Operations Specialist 1 $59,200 - $91,600
The DP Safety Officer will provide effective leadership in upholding Laboratory SMPs (Safety Management Programs), implementation of new safety directives, and be a strong contributor to daily safety activities such as HAs (Hazards Analysis), procedure reviews, operational walk-downs, IM (Issues Management) actions related to safety improvements, coaching and mentoring of early career personnel on topics such as work execution, and being a main contributor to the DP Enterprise WESST (Worker Environment, Safety, and Security Team).

Operations Specialist 2 $78,700 - $125,100

In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level the successful candidate will contribute to a strong and compliant process for hosting subcontractors performing on-site maintenance of programmatic equipment. DP is a highly operational organization performing daily operations in high explosives, chemical etching, packaging, shipping, manufacturing, and warehousing activities. As an Operations Specialist 2, you will apply your operational background in hazardous operations such as explosives safety (DOE-STD-1212) and chemical safety. Additionally, the successful Safety Officer will work closely with facility organizations as the point of contact for the Division's life safety systems and emergency response readiness.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Conduct of Operations: Experience working within a formal Conduct of Operations framework (DOE or equivalent).

Facility Operations: Knowledge of and experience with working in a nuclear facility.

Lockout/Tagout: Experience of Lockout / Tagout program's purpose and processes.

Transient Combustibles: Familiarity of transient combustible program's purpose and processes.

Communication: Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication.

Safety: Demonstrated knowledge mitigating work hazards, implementing safety practices, and understanding operating configuration. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance

Additional Job Requirements for the Operation Specialist 2:

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:

Customer Service: Customer service, organizational skills, and ability to interact with all levels of personnel internal and external to the Laboratory.

Presenting Reports: Ability in preparing and presenting facility operations reports; collecting and organizing data and maintaining auditable records.

Work Ethic: Demonstrated ability to work with little supervision.

Education/Experience for an Operations Specialist 1: Position requires a Associate's and 2 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Education/Experience for an Operations Specialist 2: Position requires an Associate's Degree and 4 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

• Operational background in hazardous operations such as explosives safety (DOE-STD-1212) and chemical safety.

• Familiarity and/or experience with DOE National Security Enterprise sites and business practices.

• Active DOE Q Clearance

Work Schedule: This position will be onsite, in Los Alamos with a work schedule of 4/10s (6:30-5:00-M-Th)

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level).
