EasyIT Store Team Leader (IT Manager 2)

What You Will Do
Innovative Customer Experience Division (ICE) is seeking an energetic, technical, and customer focused EasyIT Store Team Leader (IT Manager 2) to provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for the EasyIT Store and enterprise mobility functions at LANL, spanning locations at the Study Center and Santa Fe Pacheco site. These stores serve as centralized hubs for over 100 standardized IT products, including equipment utilized on both unclassified and classified networks. The EasyIT Team Leader directly oversees the delivery of high-impact services, such as same-day laptop and mobile deployments, to meet urgent technological needs. Leading a team of approximately 25 full-time staff and student workers, the IT Manager ensures consistent, high-quality service delivery, streamlined procurement, proactive inventory control, and effective management of a recharge-based budget to ensure cost recovery, compliance, and operational sustainability. The EasyIT Store Team Leader will lead a team in providing exceptional technical support while driving operational excellence for the ICE EasyIT Group (ICE-EIT).

ICE division consists of more than 350 talented Solution Architects, Computer Systems Professionals, and Computer System Technician employees who provide the varied Laboratory organizations with Information Technology experts who design, build, and support their mission-driven technical needs, on the unclassified and classified networks through several different service touchpoints. In addition, optimize the use of information technology, ensure seamless delivery and operation of IT services by monitoring system performance, applying configuration management practices, creating processes and standards for selection and implementation. The Innovative Customer Experience EasyIT (ICE-EIT) group plays a critical role in delivering standardized and efficient IT services that enhance the overall user experience.

As an important part of the ICE leadership team, the successful candidate's primary responsibilities include first level manager duties as defined for an IT Manager 2 position. In addition to leading and managing the team, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

Leadership

  • Oversee employee performance management, including coaching, mentoring, and development of staff.
  • Recruit, retain, and nurture a high-performing team that meets operational objectives.
  • Lead the team in adapting to change, improving processes, and achieving goals.
  • Track and report on team performance using metrics to drive continuous improvement.
  • Foster a culture of professionalism, innovation, and customer-focused service delivery.

Technical and Operational Competence

  • Manage and optimize processes for IT inventory, ensuring compliance with organizational standards and cybersecurity requirements as required by the DOE/NNSA, LASO, OCIO.
  • Support the management and oversight of key initiatives such as infrastructure refreshes, mobile device lifecycle upgrades, and the deployment of new hardware and software.
  • Implement and support ICE best practices, services, and tools to promote standardized desktop and mobile configurations, streamlined provisioning, and enhanced security compliance.
  • Ensure alignment with ITSM best practices and meets key performance objectives.
  • Track projects, coordinate resources, and consistently meet milestones and deliverables in a fast-paced, customer service-oriented environment.

Institutional Acumen

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with service providers and stakeholders to ensure seamless operations.
  • Engage with multiple levels of management effectively.
  • Collaborate across all divisions to align resources with operational goals.
  • Manage team budgets, personnel, and property resources efficiently to achieve deliverables.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Knowledge of hardware and operating systems including system architectures, network infrastructures, and client server principles (classified and/or unclassified).
  • Demonstrated expertise in desktop, laptop, and mobile device support, as well as familiarity with supporting backend infrastructure related to provisioning and deployment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of LANL business practices such as charging practices, performance management, business stewardship, problem solving and conflict resolution.
  • Experience utilizing a work ticket management system to intake work and gather metrics for continuous process improvement.
  • Demonstrated experience with collaboration across organizational boundaries, and the ability to manage customer relationships in a positive and effective manner.

Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field from an accredited institution and 3 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.


Desired Qualifications:

  • Active DOE L or Q clearance, or equivalent, transferable clearance
  • Experience managing mobile devices utilizing a Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) solution.
  • Experience researching and implementing technological solutions that enhance operations, improve customer experience, and align with business goals.
  • Knowledge of ITSM principles and frameworks such as ITIL, with a focus on service governance and continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge of the Information Architecture process and implementation of standards.
  • Knowledge of project management principles to set project scope, schedule, priorities, and deliverables.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
