Join our Team! Are you ready to take on a pivotal role in the future of national security? The Experimental Device Engineering and Assembly Group (V-5) is currently seeking a highly motivated Engineering Technologist for the Assembly Operations Team. V-5 is Los Alamos National Laboratory's (LANL) premier engineering organization focused on expert assembly of experimental weapon test devices. V-5 integrates a team of highly skilled and motivated engineers, technicians/technologists, parts management specialists, hazardous materials transportation specialists, and other support staff to safely and securely deliver high-quality assemblies meeting customer requirements. V-5 supports the experimental programs portfolio at Los Alamos and at the Nevada National Security Site.
As an Engineering Technologist for the Assembly Operations Team, you will be part of a highly skilled and talented group to support high explosives test device assembly for LANL's experimental programs which include physics and engineering weapons testing programs for Hydrodynamic Test Units, Subcritical Experimental (SCE) Test Units, Flight Test Units, Ground Test Units, and Joint Test Assemblies, etc.

Minimum Job Requirements:
Technical
- Demonstrated knowledge of assembly/disassembly methods, technical procedures and engineering drawings to provide crucial support in the design and assembly of test sub-assemblies and test assembly units.
- Demonstrated ability to use assembly tooling/fixturing equipment and hand tools.
- Experience and assembly process knowledge of mechanical assembly, mechanical measurements, and basic material properties to determine the best processes for high quality assembly units.
- Demonstrated ability to work with minimal guidance from team lead and engineers adhering to technical procedures, engineering drawings, referencing practical knowledge of weapons systems and adhering to safety and security protocols.
- Demonstrated ability to resolve mechanical engineering challenges related to hardware design, fixturing, and tooling with practical and effective solutions.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with hand tools such as, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic tooling and fixtures, testers and vacuum systems.
- Demonstrated experience supporting customers and fostering constructive and cooperative customer relationships to include the ability to communicate effectively, conscientiously and professionally in a high-performance team environment with all levels of professionals.
- Demonstrated interpersonal, oral and written communication skills in a collaborative work environment.

Desired Qualifications:
- Experience in weapons systems and/or assembly operations preferably the NNSA Weapons Complex with machining and/or manufacturing methodology
- Experience in a high-hazard operations (High Explosives or Radiated materials) and/or handling or operations associated with energetic materials/components
- Experience with classified parts, equipment, drawings and working in a classified environment
- Experience with precision inspections and measurements including use of precision inspection/measurement equipment/tooling
- Any or all of the following: Rad Worker II certification, Fissionable Material Handler (FMH) certification, High Explosives Handler, Forklift certification, Crane certification
- Possession of an active DOE Q clearance and HRP certification

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.
