Engineering Technologist 1 $85,900-$139,900

At this level, successful candidates will support the transition from 2D computer-aided design (CAD) to 3D Building Information Modeling (BIM) under the guidance of more experienced staff. Responsibilities include assisting with the creation, maintenance, and management of BIM models; preparing documentation and digital assets; and supporting data collection, LiDAR integration, and project workflows. ET-1 technologists will:
  • Assist in creating, organizing, and maintaining multidisciplinary BIM models using Revit, AutoCAD, and related tools.
  • Support model updates, documentation output, and basic clash identification under supervision.
  • Assist with 2D to 3D transitions and application of BIM standards, templates, and execution workflows.
  • Participate in the collection, organization, and management of project data and metadata needed for operations and maintenance integration.
  • Support LiDAR scan collection efforts and basic processing tasks.
  • Help develop and maintain digital construction content such as Revit families, templates, and detail components.
  • Assist with virtual build environment (VBE) service requests and communicate with the VBE Office and other Lab stakeholders as needed.
  • Participate in pilot testing new BIM tools, documenting observations, and assisting with small scale process improvements.
  • Apply established engineering principles to routine technical problems, prepare basic calculations or documentation, and support design change workflows.

ET-1 candidates must demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively, communicate effectively, and maintain a strong commitment to safety, security, and quality while learning and expanding their BIM and engineering capabilities.

Engineering Technologist 2 $94,500-$154,600

In addition to the ET-1 responsibilities, ET-2 technologists will take on more advanced coordination, quality control, and workflow support responsibilities. At this level, successful candidates will:

  • Coordinate multidisciplinary BIM models and conduct clash detection evaluations with limited supervision.
  • Contribute to the development, refinement, and enforcement of BIM standards, templates, and workflow processes.
  • Assist in preparing and reviewing BIM Execution Plans for Integrated Project Teams.
  • Support the creation and management of digital assets used across design, fabrication, construction, and operations.
  • Participate directly in BIM related problem solving, helping resolve design discrepancies through model-based coordination.
  • Aid in data mining, visualization, and integration activities supporting digital twin and lifecycle management efforts.
  • Support validation and auditing of BIM practices, contribute to corrective action recommendations, and help evaluate their effectiveness.
  • Train and guide less experienced BIM users in basic modeling methods, data entry, and adherence to standards.
  • Assist in researching, evaluating, and implementing emerging BIM technologies to improve efficiency and model intelligence.
  • Apply engineering concepts and sound judgment to support design reviews, technical documentation, calculations, and project coordination.

ET-2 technologists demonstrate growing independence, improved technical depth, and the ability to support cross-team workflows with consistency and professionalism.
