GRA in ultrafast dynamics and control of quantum materials

What You Will Do

The Laboratory for Ultrafast Materials and Optical Science (LUMOS) at the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT) is seeking an outstanding postdoctoral or graduate candidate to join our experimental efforts to study and control the dynamic properties of quantum materials. The prospective candidate will primarily be involved with the development, optimization, and use of ultrafast spectroscopy tools for the control of these material systems. This will be accomplished using an array of ultrafast excitation schemes spanning the near-infrared (NIR) to the terahertz (THz) regime and selective probes of dynamic phenomena, such as extreme ultraviolet (XUV) absorption spectroscopy, THz conductivity, and harmonic conversion. The prospective candidate will also have access to a wide variety of laser systems, laser-based spectroscopy techniques, and material systems through on-going research being conducted at LUMOS. Information on current research projects and capabilities at LUMOS are available at http://cint.lanl.gov/facilities/LUMOS/.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

An experimental background in one or more of these areas: magnetic materials, topological materials, vdW or other low-dimensional materials, nonequilibrium/dynamic phenomena, and ultrafast spectroscopy.
Education/Experience: The candidate must be actively pursuing a PhD in physics, materials science, optics, or a related field
Desired Qualifications:

Deep knowledge of magnetic and/or topological materials, THz spectroscopy, nonlinear optical spectroscopy, magneto-optical spectroscopy, and advanced skills in the development/optimization of ultrafast spectroscopy systems and data analysis.
