As a Graduate Student Architectural Intern, you will support the Office of Project Planning & Oversight (OPPO) under the Infrastructure and Capital Projects Directorate (ALDICP), which is responsible for all non-plutonium minor and major infrastructure needs at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). These projects represent a range of mission critical facilities to typical infrastructure and utility upgrades or improvements. This position requires collaboration and partnering with Triad/LANL customers, OPPO leadership, Construction Projects Execution (CPE), and DOE/NNSA partners. In doing so, you will develop working relationships with internal LANL stakeholders, external stakeholders, and other federal customers. You will report to the Project Initiation Team Lead.

Project/work plan description:
- A Graduate Student Architectural Intern will aid and support a project lead from project inception, project planning and 30% conceptual design development. You will learn tasks associated with being the technical representative for architectural and engineering activities related to the preconceptual, conceptual planning and design of projects. You will be included in the integrated project team (IPT) that includes engineers, architects, customers, stakeholders, subject matter experts and others. You will participate in the development of technical documents that define the project such as functional & operational requirements document, statement of work, alternative studies and other. You will support project programming to facilitate design efforts, coordinate design deliverables, and design reviews for both internal and external design teams to include comment disposition and resolution within the design product. Interface with the LANL Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) representatives such as building official, fire marshal, electrical safety officer, etc. for identification of requirements, permitting, and issues resolution.

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Architectural Design Management - Entry level or a working knowledge and experience in architectural design and design project management, scheduling, project control activities, cost estimating and risk management.
- Basic knowledge of project design processes and procedures, including industry codes and standards.
- Software proficiency required (MS Office Suite, REVIT, AutoCAD, 3D Visualization applications)
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills demonstrated by previous successful experience delivering presentations, written communications, and reports, and facilitating discussions.
- Collaboration: Ability to or experience interacting effectively with all levels of personnel; building trust, gaining consensus, and resolving conflicts.
- Technical Expertise: Basic experience and skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions to problems affecting technical aspects of a project.
- Technical Expertise: Understand and adhere to all Laboratory and industry regulatory guidance and governance specific to architectural design.
- Basic experience in architecture and construction techniques, including their interfaces and interdependencies for basic types and sizes of construction projects.
- Basic experience in developing and nurturing effective customer relationships.
- Basic experience problem solving, developing solution pathways, and determining the appropriate course of action through the critical thinking process.
- Must be enrolled (6 semester credit hours or full-time equivalent) in an accredited, degree-granting graduate level program (or international equivalent)
- Must currently have and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent).
Desired Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability of developing preconceptual and conceptual designs.
- Experience reporting to and communicating with multiple supervisory organizations.
- Experience in effective decision-making and creative problem solving.
- Demonstrated experience on a planning and/or detailed design engineering team.
Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
