This position will be filled at either the Industrial Hygiene and Safety Professional 3 or 4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
IH&S Professional 3 ($104,100-$172,200)
The OSH-Deployed Services group seeks Industrial Hygiene and Safety (IHS) Professional(s) to support the Utilities and Infrastructure (UI) and Science, Technologies, and Engineering (STE) teams. This role is expected to be a fully-functioning, seasoned professional who develops, reviews, and supports the implementations of programs and procedures associated with the recognition, measurement, evaluation, and control of potential health and safety hazards.
IH&S Professional 4 ($114,700-$191,200)
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, the higher level may provide daily industrial hygiene and safety support of programmatic or facility work and/or may manage and administer complex, high-risk institutional industrial hygiene and safety programs or services. The IH/S Professional 4 contributes to the development of organizational goals and objectives and builds productive, high-level, internal and external working relationships to accomplish required tasks with minimal direction.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Experience evaluating work activities to recommend protective equipment and risk controls.
- Experience reviewing plans and designs to ensure proper hazard mitigation.
- Experience supporting Integrated Work Management (IWM) through the development and review of Integrated Work Documents (IWDs).
- Experience conducting field measurements as part of a comprehensive Exposure Assessment Program.
In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:
- Advanced knowledge and experience analyzing complex safety data to identify trends.
- Advanced experience recommending hazard reduction actions.
- Advanced experience independently developing and implementing IH&S programs.
- Experience mentoring junior staff.
- Advanced experience and skill in preparing expert-level technical reports based on data observations, and current regulations.
Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires a Bachelor's in Science, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or Safety, and 8 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Education/Experience at higher level: Position requires a Bachelor's in Science, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or Safety, and 12 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
- Broad knowledge of LANL organizations, operations, and activities.
- Experience with LANL ESH data collection tools and databases.
- Expert level knowledge in air monitoring and contamination control.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.
Essential Job Functions (can perform with or without reasonable accommodation): Depth perception, binocular vision, reading vision, ability to speak, ability to discriminate speech, ability to hear in a normal range (500 to 3000 hz), standing, walking, use stairs, climb fixed ladders and ladders up to six feet, ability to lift 50 pounds and carry 35 pounds.
Work Environment:
Ability to wear respiratory/protective equipment.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Incentive Compensation Program: The higher-level position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
