This position will be filled at either the Industrial Hygiene & Safety Professional 3 or 4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
The OSH-Deployed Services group seeks Industrial Hygiene and Safety (IHS) Professional(s) to support the Utilities and Infrastructure (UI) and Science, Technologies, and Engineering (STE) teams. This role is responsible for developing, recommending, and implementing industrial hygiene and safety programs and procedures to recognize, evaluate, and control potential health and safety hazards. The IHS Professional will collaborate with the workforce to address complex safety challenges through analysis of work activities and data, while promoting safety, security, quality, fiscal responsibility, teamwork, and a positive work environment. IH&S Professional 3 ($104,100-$172,200)
The Industrial Hygiene and Safety professional 3 will evaluate work activities to recommend protective equipment and risk controls, reviews plans and designs to ensure proper hazard mitigation, supports Integrated Work Management (IWM) through the development and review of Integrated Work Documents (IWDs), and conducts field measurements as part of a comprehensive Exposure Assessment Program.
IH&S Professional 4 ($114,700-$191,200)
In addition to the above duties an Industrial Hygiene and Safety professional 4 will analyze complex safety data to identify trends and recommend hazard reduction actions, independently develop and implement IH&S programs, mentor junior staff, and prepare expert-level technical reports based on data, observations, and current regulations.

- Advanced knowledge, and demonstrated application, of DOE and regulatory requirements related to industrial hygiene and safety in a research environment.
- Advanced knowledge of and experience implementing industrial hygiene/safety-related risk assessments and corrective actions.
- Advanced knowledge and application of techniques and procedures for industrial hygiene exposure assessment (both qualitative and quantitative), to include sampling and sampling techniques/instrumentation, sample analysis, and selection/implementation of controls.
- Advanced skill in the preparation and communication of industrial hygiene/safety technical information to technical and non-technical personnel.
- Advanced knowledge and ability to apply the hierarchy of controls to eliminate or mitigate hazards while ensuring mission success.
- Advanced experience and skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions to industrial hygiene and safety related problems.
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively within a team environment and provide excellent customer service.
Additional Job Requirements for higher level title:
In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:
- Expert level knowledge, and demonstrated application, of DOE and regulatory requirements related to industrial hygiene and safety in a research environment.

Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires a Bachelor's in Science, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or Safety, and 8 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Education/Experience at higher level: Position requires a Bachelor's in Science, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or Safety, and 12 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
- Broad knowledge of LANL organizations, operations, and activities.
- Experience with LANL ESH data collection tools and databases.
- Expert level knowledge in air monitoring and contamination control.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Active Q clearance.
- Relevant professional certification preferred (eg. CIH, CSP).
Essential Job Functions: (can perform with or without reasonable accommodation): Depth perception, binocular vision, reading vision, ability to speak, ability to discriminate speech, ability to hear in a normal range (500 to 3000 hz), standing, walking, use stairs, climb fixed ladders and ladders up to six feet, ability to lift 50 pounds and carry 35 pounds. Ability to wear respiratory/protective equipment.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Incentive Compensation Program: The higher-level position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
