As part of the Associate Laboratory Directorate for Plutonium Infrastructure (ALDPI), the work we do in Plutonium Infrastructure Projects (PI-PROJ) directly affects mission success across Los Alamos National Laboratory. We are seeking a dynamic and highly organized leader to manage multiple work fronts while overseeing Construction Managers and Construction Superintendents in support of the ALDPI/ALDWP mission.
In this role, you will ensure work is executed safely and in full compliance with LANL policies, providing oversight to confirm Integrated Work Documents (IWDs) are followed or pausing work when required. You will coordinate daily operations by resolving resource conflicts, prioritizing work activities, and deconflicting teams operating in the same rooms or areas to maintain steady progress. Working closely with Project Managers, you will help define the scope of work for each shift and communicate progress, potential obstacles, and recommended solutions to shift management and senior ALDPI leadership. The position also provides leadership to project managers by directing the execution of project assignments, assigning personnel to projects, providing training, and supporting salary administration and career development for the group. Additionally, you will contribute to business development efforts by presenting the organization's project management capabilities and supporting opportunities for future work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implements Integrated Safety Management (ISM) by embedding safety (health, environment, security, quality) into all work, promoting accountability, and fostering open communication and engagement.
- Advises management on compliance with government regulations, DOE contracts, and Laboratory policies to ensure full adherence.
- Interprets and provides guidance on project management policies, programs, and procedures.
- Develops and recommends project management policies, plans, and execution strategies for consistent and effective project delivery.
- Establishes standardized management practices to ensure consistency, knowledge sharing, and alignment across projects.
- Oversees project performance by monitoring progress, approving key plans and estimates, and ensuring corrective actions are taken.
- Directs staff and project teams, including delegation of authority, staffing plans, training, and fostering continuous improvement.
- Ensures coordination across departments, resolving issues promptly and maintaining an integrated project approach.
- Manages project controls and business functions, including cost estimates, schedules, forecasts, budgets, contract administration, and client relations.
- Leads personnel and organizational management, including hiring, performance management, workforce planning, and fostering an inclusive, respectful workplace.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Thorough advanced knowledge of construction, engineering, procurement and other project-related activities, including their interfaces and inter-dependencies.
- Advanced broad knowledge of construction industry standards.
- Experience planning, organizing, leading and monitoring a wide variety of team efforts to ensure their successful completion.
- Experience in business development strategy.
- Ability to establish and maintain strong and effective customer relations.
- Proven leadership and management ability. Ability to promote an open and informal communication environment, to develop mutual trust and teamwork, and to facilitate employee self-development.
- Ability to recognize people for their accomplishment's organizations and that customers and Laboratory management are made aware of these accomplishments.
- Strong understanding of financial analysis and planning concepts.
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 8 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
- Advanced understanding of the scope of work and requirements covered by the prime contract.
- Understands and is committed to the Laboratory's continuous improvement process and leadership principles.
- Advanced degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or related discipline.
- Professional certifications such as PMP, PMI-SP, PMI-RMP, PE, CCM, or Six Sigma/Lean or related discipline
- Experience managing large, complex, or high-hazard construction projects, preferably in a regulated or federal environment.
- Demonstrated experience leading project completion, startup, and commissioning activities for large, complex construction or capital infrastructure projects.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.
Work Schedule: This position may require 24/7 coverage, which could involve working a shift/weekend schedule. Employees may be eligible for shift differential pay when assigned by their manager. Shift/weekend assignments are at the discretion of the manager.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
